Cade Socha QB coach & pass game coordinator leaving the team
I feel naming a new OC before Feb LOI will help recruiting.
Also will determine if we need more TE's or receivers.
Honestly bring in someone with experience and play calling, no need be RNS. Move on already. Don't be limited by an offense that hardly anyone runs anymore and DC know how to counter.
Also no need have ties to Hawaii or TC.
Thurman is a Prime example of the type if coordinator we need.
Maybe some WR in the portal may decide to return with the right guys in charge of the offense

Re: New OC Thread
I'm good with the multiple offense that TC finally ran at the end of the season, specifically with Micah at the helm. Offenses have to evolve, and pure run and shoot has been solved by modern defenses.

Re: New OC Thread
Maybe TC really enjoy being the OC and calling the plays. Maybe the Associate HC becomes the HC in some situations so one man does not have two jobs.
Seems like college football staff have grown with fancy titles and makes it not clear what they really do.

Does anyone have any clues or ideas of potential candidates?
Re: New OC Thread
I'll put this out there, how about Billy Ray Stutzmann ( currently at San Jose State )! He's been coaching college ball for awhile now ( Utah Tech, Navy, San Jose State).gpmcconnell wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 11:34 am Does anyone have any clues or ideas of potential candidates?

Re: New OC Thread
Always liked Brennan Marion. Sorry that he did not get to show his stuff here. His offense suits Michah. Would need to find a good backup though.

Sacramento State is killing it in the transfer portal? LOL...Well, I guess one day we could aspire to become as good as Sacramento State? Wait, isn't Sacramento State an FCS (Div 2) team?76SOUTH wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2024 9:29 amHe's "Killing it" in the transfer portal! One could compare us to UNLV. They won a bowl game after 24 years recently. How many bowl games has Hawaii won over that span of time? Hawaii Football has been hamstrung by a moronic chase for the prettier coach over the years. Teams like Boise St. and BYU build programs. We constantly try to reinvent that which is already superior to those programs while we are in a slump. BYU should have been in the national championship this year. We were better than them the last time we met in 2019.

Just for discussion, not sold on the TP, meaning what if these guys don't gel? The end result may be worst in the season. UH had a lot of good players perhaps in the wrong system. And the system kept changing. Yes, there is the JJ turnaround with Fred Von App (FVA) players. Even with that, FVA recruited good players. Whatever reason, it did not work.

FCS SacSt got $50 Mil in NIL and a 21K stadium. We struggled vs one of the worst FCS teams (Delaware St), we aren't that much better than SacSt
Sorry but UNLV has passed Hawaii in coaching, recruiting, NIL and game day stadium experience.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/ ... r-BB1rhYRmOn the topic of new and fresh, Sacramento State plans to replace archaic Hornet Stadium, in use since 1969, with a state-of-the-art 25,000-seat football stadium as it continues its quest to realign into the higher-level FBS, something Wood said this past week “will happen.”
What’s more, Sacramento State is constructing a new 25,000 square-foot football facility on its J Street campus that should be completed by the end of February. That’s just in time for spring ball when a new era officially arrives for a program that put years of mediocrity and misery to bed by winning Big Sky Conference championships in 2019, 2021 and 2022 under coach Troy Taylor, now at Stanford. The Hornets reached the FCS playoffs in 2023 before an injury-ravaged 2024 season
.ThePortalReport.com ranked Sacramento State as having secured the best class in all of the FCS and the ninth best class overall behind nine FBS programs: Missouri, Texas Tech, Indiana, Kansas, Oregon, Auburn and Rutgers.
So in short, yes I do wish one day we could aspire to become as good as Sacramento State

https://hawaiiathletics.com/news/2025/1 ... nator.aspxSocha Promoted To Quarterbacks Coach, Pass Game Coordinator
HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i head football coach Timmy Chang has announced that Cade Socha will assume the role of quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator.
Socha joined the program in 2022 and has served as an offensive analyst the past three seasons assisting with the quarterbacks and helping Chang with the offense.
"Great person who loves the game of football and cares about the players," Chang said. "He's a special coach with a bright future."
The Keiser University graduate, began his coaching career at San Diego as a defensive intern in 2020 and was a graduate assistant at Nevada in 2021, working under Chang with the wide receiver unit. He joined Chang's inaugural staff at Hawai'i the following year.
Socha worked with quarterback Brayden Schager, who set a school-record for consecutive QB starts with 33 from 2022-24. Schager finished his career ranked No. 3 all-time in passing attempts and completions and was fourth in passing yards and total offense.
The Delray Beach, Fla., native was a three-year letterman at Keiser University from 2017-19. He spent spring of 2020 at the University of San Diego as a defensive line intern before returning to Keiser in the fall as a student assistant for his father head coach Doug Socha. That season, he helped Keiser capture its second straight conference championship and advance to the NAIA Football Championship series semifinals.
Following the 2021 season at Nevada, Socha initially followed head coach Jay Norvell to Colorado State before joining Chang's staff at Hawai'i in February 2022.
