Is Hunter going up to 138? Is Landford wrestling at 126? I think 285 could go many different ways (their whole weight class is so unpredictable. All it takes is one fat guy falling on top of the other fat guy, and they ain't getting out).

In my opinion, Burton should’ve gotten some back points.anabo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 11:34 amI was in the other gym and didn't get to see it, but I heard that Burton-Gaucher match could have gone either way. I'll be excited to see them wrestle again. Nishida appeared to get hurt not far into the match with Buelow and the pin came pretty soon after that. Hopefully he's ok.ReezyBreezy808 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 8:35 pm talloola25 wrote:

This was interesting as this was Burton's first loss on the season
Suan wrestled great against Corpus
Suan/corpuz was a good match. Corpuz got accidentally kicked in the chin that really snapped his head back, in the second. They did a concussion test and he continued, up 3-2 going into the third. Suan then got two takedowns. Corpuz didn’t wrestle this week at the duals. I’d like to see that rematch.

Re: 2024-2025 Wrestling
Some observations from this past weekend's divisionals:
1. Pearl City looks to be peaking at the right time...although no Jaden Thai?
2. Kalani bounced back from duals to squeak by Moanalua. Is it a changing of the guard or just a fluke? No Isaiah Torres?
3. 215 in the OIA East is STACKED. Burton, Kaumavae, Gaucher, Fonoimoana, Honebein. That might be 5 state placers right there.
4. 150 will be an interesting weight to seed for OIAs. Gasilos, Nakai, Wang, Caminos-Freitas, Correa all took turns beating each other this year.
Anything else stand out to you guys?

6 best finals matches to me
1. Kanoa(Kah) over mcreadie. 190. Skillset easily with mcreadie. Kanoa is a first year senior wrestler. Played football and rugby. This kid is shredded and understand that he runs 10-12 miles a day. Mcreadie had to throw up in the second. Kanoa kept the pressure on to get the fall. Match of the day.
2. Every match for boys 215. Finals Burton controlled the match over kaumavae.
3. Kamakaala over cabiles in SV. 4-3. Cabiles got called for his second stalling call and the winning point went to Kamakaala in OT.
4.Kalamau over akioka. These two girls are very talented and athletic. Amazing how they both got out of moves that would’ve been night night for the average wrestler.
5. Kukonu over Taeu. Nice to see Kukonu on the mat. Hopefully, her injury is past her. She used some speed and skillset to control Taeu in neutral and bottom position.
6. Esera over Yasumura. This one did go back and forth. For the most part, Esera had control over Yasumura but she came back and stacked Esera for a good 30 seconds without getting the fall. Late desperation attempt at a shot lead to another takedown by Esera. Might be state finals matchup.
5 takeaways from this tournament
1. Coach Racer has been putting together a nice team out there in Kalani for some years and it paid off. Big congratulations finally stopping Moanalua boys reign in the east. If I’m correct, half point separated the two teams.
2. Moanalua girls run away with the title again. I believe getting 12 of 14 into the finals. Partially due to lack of competition. They also showed their hand as we see Kukonu at 140, down from last week. And Ramos at 100.
3. Kahuku starting to build a team. Heavyweight transfer Hopkins won first. He came from KSK Hawaii. Did really well in officials this year, including an upset win over Miller.
4. Boys 215. As stated by squirrel, may have the top 4-5 in the state, coming out of the east. It is anyone’s game, with Burton leading the way. Seeding for this weight class will be interesting, if true seeding.
5. East side boys champions are strong. Boys should have at least 5 number 1 seeds going into states. Hotema, Kamakaala, Taam, Goeas, and Burton.

I’m surprised to PC’s young wrestlers are putting it together already. Add Jadan Thai for OIA’s, and they might be the favorite.OIAwrestling wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 10:00 amYou beat me to my post. Things that stand out this past weekend!
-Pearl City boys looking good. Looks to be Front runner
-Moanalua & Kalani Boys right behind for sure
-Moanalua, Pearl City & Leileihua/ Kalani (Girls)
-190 and 215 might be competitive at States no real blow outs?
-120 boys are a tossup, Bicoy looks ready to make that run.
-Is Ramos, not giving Chole the rematch? maybe running?
-Jaden Thai inj?
-285 just added Miner in the mix with Top spot.
Looking forward to this week:
-What weight will Brown go 110 or 115?
-Will Berger wrestle? or is he still inj?
-120,126,132,138,190,215 & 285 for boys might preview some new front runners.
-New P4P predictions? boys and girls

Re: 2024-2025 Wrestling
Anybody knows what happened in the Miner vs. Peau match? Did Miner really get that much better from officials? That's some great improvement, I mean he won by major decision. But as FlyingSquirrel said previously, the heavyweight class is very unpredictable and a top seed or any seed for that matter could lose on any given day, won't know who's the best till we see who's standing on top of that podium come next week Saturday lol.

Re: 2024-2025 Wrestling
No disrespect to ILH, but they seem a little weak for the boys. most of the weighs they only have about one good wrestler in the weight class. The only weight classes I can think of with solid matchups at ILH champs are; Saun v Landford (126), Chang v Berger (132, if berger wrestles), Nishida v Buelow (175, also if nishida wrestles).

Re: 2024-2025 Wrestling
Gotta figure that Berger and Nishida will wrestle. Even if they aren't at 100%, they could do enough to get to the finals, qualify for states, and then forfeit out of the finals. If they don't wrestle in ILH Championships, their season is over, and I'm positive Berger is not going to forfeit his shot at being a 4 timer. I'm more interested to see if the rumors of Berger going up to 138 are true.bigbreaker808 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 9:29 am No disrespect to ILH, but they seem a little weak for the boys. most of the weighs they only have about one good wrestler in the weight class. Kam is still the clear front runner. PC, Moanalua, Kalani & Leileihua fighting for those next 2 spots.

I got a chance to speak with Burton, he's a good kid and has a few D1 offers for track. Honebein is also getting recruited by D1 schools for football.

Re: 2024-2025 Wrestling
I think we should begin talks about video replay. I already know the negatives to starting it up, cost, training, etc. same like adding the shot clock to local basketball.
You’re given the green or red block. You can throw it once, if you’re correct you can throw it again. Time limit how long the ref looks at the video to make their conclusion. It can also be called inconclusive if the video angle is bad. Limit on what issues can be reviewed. Minus a point if the challenge is unsuccessful. These are mainland rules.
In our last mainland tournament, I went 4-0 on the video replay. Here, I’m 0-6, with video proof. Locking hands, headlock, not in time, etc. if it wasn’t for the video replay, I lose all 4 contested calls. Obviously, I’m protesting because the call or no call, didn’t go my wrestlers way. It seems that I’m shaking my head at every tournament. And yes, there were bad calls made in our favor also.

Re: 2024-2025 Wrestling
Looks like OIA Pre-seeds came out!
-No sign of Jaden Thai. I guess his injury was more serious than everybody thought.
-Gasilos went back down to 144.
-150 has 20 wrestlers!
-Torres back in at 138.
-113 and 285 seedings look to be all over the place since so many guys beat and lost to so many other guys throughout the season.
Any predictions?
