Hawaii in discussion with pac 12 and CUSA and MWC. If MWC gets rid of travel subsidies, then we should reaffirm our commitment. Also since UH is not a full member, the buyout fees would be a lot smaller. Not sure how much. CUSA for football only would be strange but doable I guess however no travel subsidies.

Is the name of the Pac 8 that important? The Pac-8 are the Beatlemania band, a tribute house band of a famous rock band, and Vegas impersonators of rock stars.

Re: mountain west/pac2 agreement
I see UNLV, SJST, and Airforce joining Pac 12. As soon as tomorrow.
Wyoming and New Mexico forced to join Conference USA later in the future.
Nevada decides to drop to FCS and joins Big Sky. Just cost to much money to be competitive at FBS level and they could be a great football program at the FCS level.
As for Hawaii, I hope there is a spot for the football team in some form with the Pac 12. Nothing else makes sense. Dropping down to FBS won't work and no other conferences make any sense. But I am guessing to get a PAC 12 invite will mean major travel subsidies, and smaller if any revenue sharing. Just a bad deal, but one Hawaii might be forced to except.

hawai’i/gonzaga mix plate combo to the pac12 would be onolicious.

PAC filed suit against MWC, calling exit fees unfair. I think they are just prolonging the inevitable. Exit fees is a part of what is normal nowadays in college football realignment.

Whatta you mean? Do you think before this mess is finally over it'll be a reverse merger of the conferences? Or what?bigislandkurt wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 3:23 pm PAC filed suit against MWC, calling exit fees unfair. I think they are just prolonging the inevitable. Re: mountain west/pac2 agreement
Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi assembled a third-party group that has been lobbying for the University of Hawaii football team to gain admittance into the Pac-12 Conference.
A month ago, the third-party group initiated meetings with Pac-12 officials. Two weeks later, “I was concerned when the four schools announced (their departure from the Mountain West),” said Blangiardi, who was then told by the group, “we still have a chance. There are two more (spots in the Pac-12). Now there’s one.”
Blangiardi, who has no financial nor negotiating stake, said Duane Kurisu agreed to underwrite the lobbying effort. Kurisu’s resume includes being chairman and CEO of aio; real estate investor and owner of office buildings, shopping centers and industrial parks; and a minority owner of the San Francisco Giants.
The negotiating team includes:
>> Craig Thompson, who was commissioner for the first 24 years of the 25-year-old Mountain West.
>> Dan Guerrero, retired athletic director at UCLA. He has served as chairman of the selection committee for the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament.
>> Glenn Sugiyama, managing partner of Chicago-based Global Sports Practice, a sports consulting business with clients in 65 countries. According to the company, Forbes once described Sugiyama as “one of the most influential men in college athletics.”
Last year, the Mountain West’s 12 members signed a loyalty agreement. A Mountain West school that seceded a year or more ahead of June 30, 2026, would have to pay a steep exit fee. For 11 schools, that fee is $17 million. But as a football-only member, UH’s exit fee would be about $3.5 million.
Rest of article:Blangiardi is a former UH football player, coach and announcer. He is a member of the school’s Circle of Honor.
