NEW: A version of the Pac-12 could still survive.
The Mountain West is exploring a reverse merger with Oregon State and Washington State, source confirms to
@FOS
. Many are in favor of taking the Pac-12 name.
It's the most commonly discussed idea rn.

Sources tell me the Mountain West, Oregon State, and Washington State are progressing on a plan to keep the PAC 12 brand alive. The idea is to save the brand in hopes of driving higher TV revenue from current TV partners, which TV industry sources tell me would not surpass $10M.

Re: MWC/PAC Reverse Merger to Make Renewed PAC14
I think the new PAC12 with the 14 teams could get between $10-$12 million per school annually. CBS/FOX/ESPN would love to pick up a media deal with the one and only premiere FBS Western Conference. Thats a nice pay day for Hawaii Athletics for a change.
Re: MWC/PAC Reverse Merger to Make Renewed PAC14
This is a much nicer scenario than what we were dreading a couple of months ago.

Do you think if this happens UH will still have to pay travel and whatever other travel costs for team playing In Hawaii, or is this a chance for them to shake this expense?

I don't know if it's guaranteed that UH will be part of this merger. I think they are considering the part where UH does not have a large stadium to play their games in. A lot of it is about the $$.

I hate to admit it, but we very well might be left out. It's easier than ever for this proposed new conference to leave us out and not look bad doing it. They can blame it on Hawaii not getting a stadium done. Which is not a lie, but also a way to cover their arses to not look like aholes for leaving us out. We kinda did this to ourselves. All of a sudden, the Big Sky conference might seem like a more realistic possibility. Doom and gloom? well, we won't be with the big big boys anymore. But we might be able to rule FCS. No bowl games, but got playoffs. I dunno. I really don't want to look that way, but I got a strong feeling that we are going to be left out.....again.

Honestly, I don't think you'll be left out. Football needs to have an even number of teams for scheduling. Personally, I do think this "PAC-14" hybrid will add another school just for the Olympic sports....Gonzaga since they don't have football (since 1946 btw). Just saw a headline saying that the West Coast Conference is looking to expand as well. That tells me that they are of the mind that the WCC will lose Gonzaga so they need to add more to keep that conference from falling apart.bigislandkurt wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2023 4:47 pm I hate to admit it, but we very well might be left out. Re: MWC/PAC Reverse Merger to Make Renewed PAC14
The plan is to do a Full Merger between the MWC/PAC12 by 2024 or 2025, nobody is getting left behind. If they cannot do the Full Merger then WSU/OSU will have to join the MWC outright.

"Murthy, who celebrates her one-year anniversary as Oregon State’s president on Saturday, says rebuilding the Pac-12 remains one of several options. Others include joining the Mountain West Conference, or an unusual merger with the full membership of the MWC, whereby a 14-member league would operate under the Pac-12 brand and potentially retain its assets."

The reality is that the backstabbing in the current PAC 12 continues with these schools.
They wanted to hold a meeting to vote on PAC12 to vote possibly dissolved the PAC12 to split up the assets? WSU/OSU had to file for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) to abstain from any voting, which will be granted by the courts next week Monday.
This shouldn't be too hard to prove damages and a precedence has already been set by removing USC, UCLA and Colorado from the board. Everyone has stated that this is a solid case for WSU/OSU and I agree with them.
I think there will be a settlement in favor of WSU/OSU by either the lawyers coming to an agreement or the courts giving a favorable ruling. This might not be a 2-year court battle as some think? I think resolution will be swift.
Smart move by WSU/OSU to cutoff Klown Kliavkoff and 10 former PAC 12 schools from acting in their own interest and their new conference interest. How does anybody know that the B10, B12 and ACC would have strongly suggested to their incoming new conference members to vote to dissolve the PAC12. Effectively, killing off and reducing the money and power to the P4 forever, and those outgoing members also get an asset split with that killing off of the PAC12. That is 2 very powerful motives right there alone.
I think the MWC/PAC Full Merger will happen and the new PAC12 will be born in 2024. Hawaii will be in the PAC12.

Re: MWC/PAC Reverse Merger to Make Renewed PAC14
I hope this is accurate and the judge issues a TRO against the other schools from trying to dissolve the Pac-12.
https://www.espn.com/college-sports/sto ... int-pac-12They pointed to the conference's bylaws, which state that any notice of withdrawal from the league means a school "automatically cease(s) to be a member of the Pac-12 Board of Directors and shall cease to have the right to vote on any matter."

Re: MWC/PAC Reverse Merger to Make Renewed PAC14
Agenda for PAC Board meeting that is called and OSU and WSU are trying to stop
"Aug. 29: Commissioner George Kliavkoff calls Washington State president Kirk Schulz and asks Schulz to convene the board of directors to “discuss matters related to the departing members, proposed amendments to the Bylaws, a proposed conflicts of interest plan for Pac-12 members, and an employee compensation and retention plan for the Commissioner and other employees of the Pac-12.”
"The complaint states that “by characterizing the meeting as a ‘meeting of all Conference CEOs’ rather than a Board Meeting, the Commissioner sought to circumvent the clear language of the Withdrawal provision and empower the departing members to decide matters that properly may be decided only by the Board.”
WOW! The Current PAC 12 Commissioner George Klaivkoff is a total crook trying to make sure he gets kept as the commissioner or a huge compensation package for fooking up everything. This is why the MWC Commissioner Gloria Nevarez is being asked to be the new PAC12 Commissioner after the MWC/PAC12 Merger is complete.
