Totally agree, that being said I don't think Pa'aluhi can roll with him. I think Porter has the talent to wrestle with him for a bit, but his gas tank is always suspect. I don't foresee Labuanan struggling to win any of his matches this year, as unfortunate to us fans as that may be. I believe the tiers at 144 are 1. Labuanan 2. Pa'aluhi and Porter 3. Sekigawa 4. everyone else. I honestly hope I'm wrong though. It would make for a more fun tournament.that_guy wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 8:28 amLebuanan definitely has had a great year, but he has yet to challenge someone with fire like Paʻaluhi(KSK) or Porter(WAN). You could argue his match with Sekigawa(IOL) reflects what a match would be with Paʻaluhi but I disagree. Paʻaluhi could definitely give him a tough match, possibly even beating him, and with Porter, it is hard to say who meets at finals.talloola25 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 12:01 am Boys p4p top 5. I'm mostly using dominance, accomplishments, and best wins.
1. Lebuanan 144 2x champ - has upped his game and has dominated everyone. Closest match was a dec over Salter(at "Who's Next" event)
2. Taam 138 2x champ - dominant in all wins. Best win is returning Runner-up Shigemoto
3. Berger 126 1x champ - dominating everyone. Best win is Landford by fall
4. Del Rosario 120 1x placer. Dominating most matches. Best win Kusumoto 2x champ
5. Goeas - Dominant in most wins. In close matches, there is still not a question of who's going to win (except once). Best win Xander Erolin 2x champ
1&2 can definitely flip a coin for order, but I like the offensive dominance he's showing this year. Not being content to just ride and win by a few points like some matches last year.

It's too bad that's the vibe he's giving out. I spent some time coaching and interacting with him a bit over the summer and he's a super humble and respectful kid. His father is the same way. I know he's honestly just out there enjoying himself and hope his sportsmanship can start reflecting his character a little more closely.BroStaff wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 8:34 amLabuanan is probably one of the most talented wrestlers I’ve seen. Labuanon is a stud no denying it. Definitely the most exciting and entertaining wrestler in Hawaii currently. I think a lot of people would be happy to see him get upset at states but unfortunately I don’t think any other wrestler in the state is up for the task. I think some are avoiding him and others are just happy not to end up in one of his highlight reels.talloola25 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 9:59 amIt's too bad that's the vibe he's giving out. Unfortunately, the injury bug has gotten to a lot of notable girls this year. Hopefully, no more injuries before states.talloola25 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 12:06 am @OIAwrestling - your 100% correct about that. I wasn't sure how bad her shoulder was tbh. If it is that bad, I would agree with you. Also, I believe Nitta was the most skilled wrestler last year and tbh should have won the year before as well(the officiating in her finals match was a bit suspect at some points, but officially is hard so I understand). TBH I hope Esera is at her best for states, because she's fun to watch when she is.

Labuanon is definitely a character. But I thought when Sekigawa was on his knees and Labuanon speared him, shoving his forehead into Sekigawas face, that was outright dirty. He knew exactly what he was doing. That’s no accident.

Erolin and Keegan are 1-1 this year but Keegan won the last one. Is that why he gets the 5th spot? BJ is undefeated and best returning runner up suantalloola25 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 12:01 am Boys p4p top 5. Jordan Burroughs is famous for this. I didn't see the incident in question(had to leave early) but people would stay low to defend Burroughs double and he would just shoot it through their face instead. Also, Goeas did the exact same thing to Theos(LEI) at the ILH/OIA crossover earlier in the season.OIAwrestling wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 12:00 pmNice list. Best win is a nice criteria. @Sponjah1 Good list, but the 150 is 100% wrong. Pavao might finish 3rd at best. I think 1 and 2 will be Cobb-Adams and Mercado. Pavao is a halfway decent replacement to Salter, but can't compete with those guys.

Actually I just was using undefeated wrestlers. That's the only reason Erolin, Lau, Kusumoto, etc aren't listed. I believe they are actually worthy of being on the list. BJ(Bicoy) is awesome, but his dominance level isn't on par with theirs. Here are those 5 on my list for example.Sponjah1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 12:18 pmErolin and Keegan are 1-1 this year but Keegan won the last one. Is that why he gets the 5th spot? Labuanan: 22-0 all wins but 2 are pins or techs. One 14pt win(Sekigawa) and one 7-2 victory when going up 2 weight classes to wrestle 157.
Taam: 17-0 all wins except 1 are pins or tech. One 12-0 win(Mainland wrestler) and pinned Shigemoto(State 2nd)
Berger: 16-0 one dec(against Landford and has pinned him since) and another 12-0 victory after moving up a weight
Del Rosario: 16-0 two dec(Kusumoto 2x champ and Dudoit) One major(Dudoit)
Keeghan: Actually I forgot that he lost to Erolin at the crossover earlier in the year. I will replace him. For reference 22-1, 4 dec and 1 major(beat 2x champ and a state finalist)
Bicoy: 24-0 beat a state runner up and has 6 wins by less than tech or pin
If I were to replace Keeghan, it would likely be with Bicoy. He's in a tough weight and has some really good wins. He's grown a lot since last year.
Others to choose from include Cobb-Adams, Tao, McCreadie, Lauifi, Porter, Jackson(only loss was a DQ when up by 5 in the first).
Re: 2023-2024 Wrestling Season
Does anyone know if Labuanan could have cut to 138? I feel like he could definitely make the weight but is avoiding Tyger because personally I think Tyger beats him no question. But, I also understand even if he could make the cut it would not be worth his energy if 144 is already pretty obviously in his favor.808WrestlingFan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 11:37 amLabuanon is a stud no denying it. Not sure but I was told Taam was keeping his weight down prior to hydrations possibly to avoid Labuanan. Not sure how true that is but the source is from Moanalua. Could also be why Tyger didn’t bump up for officials to face Labuanan but will travel to the mainland to wrestle harder competition. With that being said, Taam is under no obligation to chase anybody and should go whatever weight he wants or the team needs.that_guy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 7:52 amDoes anyone know if Labuanan could have cut to 138? Re: 2023-2024 Wrestling Season
I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I'm the ILH 120,126, 150, will all have one match worth watching. 157 might have 2, 175 finals will be a very slow/low scoring match with the winner winning by 2 or so. I think the weights that are up in the air are possibly 106, 132, and 215.wrestlehard808 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 9:01 pmILH: 120, 126, 144, 150, 157, 175scoredtwooo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 8:51 pm Anyone have opinions on the most interesting/fun weight classes to be keeping an eye on at OIA/ILH championships?
OIA: 106, 113, 120, 132, 138, 144, 165, 215, 285
OIA- I'm excited for 106, 113, 120, 126, 175, 215, and 285. Especially 106-126 and 175
Most of the other weights are pretty much locked up I think.
I think 106 has 5 of the states top 6 in it. I think 113 has at least 4. 126 at least 4. It's going to be a fun tournament.
