@FlyingSquirrel:

I don't have a rumor, gossip or prediction, but: Is Moanalua High going to win the girls' title again? I'd like to see some other school win it. The Mene girls have had their time basking in glory.

Well, they always seem to have a full squad, so I figure that already puts them in the driver's seat! It'll be interesting to see another school make it interesting with them. Kamehameha would probably be the team that has the next biggest and talented girls team, but who knows?

I think it's natural for schools to focus on the sports they are good at. For a while, my alma mater, Aiea, was good at baseball. Now, not as much. But once a school has success in a certain sport, it builds the momentum. St Louis has been good at football for a long time, so they naturally attract boys who want to play for them.

Even for the "smaller" sports, you see the same teams having success. Punahou in girls water polo, Roosevelt in judo, etc.

@FlyingSquirrel808: I'd like to see Kamehameha beat Moanalua. I like Kamehameha Schools.

@ChadFukuoka:

1. Yes, Aiea was once very good in baseball. Who can forget their '76 team, led by the pitching of none other than Derek Tatsuno?
2. Seems that a number of football players have been leaving St Louis School over the past few years.
3. For one shining year--this year--Kamehameha Schools STOPPED Punahou in girls' water polo.
4. Now it's Moanalua that rocks in judo.

Now that the weight classes changed this season, it will be interesting to see what weight all those girls go.

Actually, not only those girls, but it will be interesting to see which weight classes many other wrestlers will go. I'm especially keeping an eye on those middle weight boys like Goeas, Erolin, Mercado, Woolsey, Porter, Cobb-Adams, etc. I assume they're all gonna end up somewhere in 144, 150, or 157, but which ones will go where?

True dat.

When the weight classes change,some classes get crowded with more contenders,and some weights get less competitive. Then ,you have to throw in the wild card of growing teenagers, so some kids will make big changes in weight class. It will be fun to see how things shake out in 2023-2024.

The girls weight classes will be really interesting. Adding a 190 was great, but with so few true 225s, why was 235 added?

I believe they just moved to align all the weight classes with the NFHS weight classes so that we're using the same weights as the rest of the country (both boys and girls).

Earlier this year someone wrote to keep an eye on the Campbell boys...I think their scrappy little guys Sheldon (106), Vilavong (113), and Kato (120) will be staying at those classes.

I saw Sheldon at a club tournament during the freestyle season and he looked bigger than 106. I'd guess around 115 or so. Do you think he can make the cut down to 106? If he can't, that might throw off their lineup. If he can though, do you think Campbell has enough firepower in their other weights to make a run at OIA's or states?

Has anyone noticed how Campbell High seems to have established itself as something of a powerhouse in sports recently? I mean, the following of their teams have been pretty much kicking butt:

(In no particular order):
Football
Boys' Basketball
Girls' Basketball
Baseball
Softball
Girls' Soccer

And now, their boys' wrestling team might be pretty good?
