Re: Arizona Grad Transfer CB McKenzie Barnes Commits
Only played in one game last year. Was he hurt or buried down the depth chart?

Saw significant playing time during 2018 true frosh and 2019 sophomore seasons but not much playing time in the past 2 seasons. With his length, might also be a candidate to play safety instead of corner.

Hope that McKenzie comes in hungry and show what he can do!

He already earned his degree, so can just concentrate on football.
Grad transfers are a good get because they got one year left (most likely) and want to go out with a bang, leave everything on the field. They are "older" and more mature, can be a pillar in the locker room for 18 year old kids coming in.

Actually, with a scholarship to work on a Master's degree, that's not something you want to waste. Go to classes and earn that degree.cabanalane wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 5:20 am He already earned his degree, so can just concentrate on football.

Correct, don't waste that opportunity for education.
The difference, just for conversation, is that he only have one more year of football. No rush on the school part. He can take 3 years to finish his Masters degree (instead of 2 years). Then again, I don't know the program.

Re: McKenzie Barnes out
This is a big loss. The secondary was hit hard by graduation and the portal and Barnes was going to be part of the rebuilt secondary. I hope he is able to come back next year.

Re: Mackenzie Barnes in transfer portal?
It's not really clear from his statement. April 30th was the last day to enter the portal, so if this is an announcement it's kind of late. Last year it looked like he was going to start, but he got hurt just before the first game and missed the whole season. I don't think he was a full participant in spring practice this year. He could be medically retiring.
He was a grad transfer from Arizona last year. Today is graduation day for UH, so maybe he is graduating from grad school.
