Wait, you can just terminate a signed contract like that? Why haven't I seen this happen more often? I thought he'd at least have to spend a year here...
A player can request a release from the school he signed a LOI. The school has the option of releasing him or not. If the school doesn't release him, he can still go to another school but would lose a year of eligibility.
In any event, he doesn't want to be here so let him go.

Hopefully the reclaimed 2023 scholarship is used to fill more immediate needs for other positions (for a ready-to-play OT or another flex TE/WR).
OT and TE are definitely more immediate needs and now we have another scholarship available.
I concur with all of the above sentiments. This young man has problems making up his mind. Probably would have been a portal transfer sooner rather that later, even if he did enroll in school.

Nah...UH will get another DB.
Because defense wins championships?
Cannot play all DBs!!!!

The all DB defense post made me think that an average OL and RB would look like Ron Dayne running up the middle through the holes made by the Wisconsin OL against UH. He had over 300 yards that night. Probably the most helpless and sickest feeling I had as a fan.

Those Wisconsin OLs are always top notch and open big holes against most defenses. They are huge, powerful and nimble.
