I didn't have time or memory to go back prior to 1999.
But yes he was a Von Appen recruit in 97 out of Rick's JC.

Sorry I re-worded the title and OP to discuss only guys vying for QB1 or Q2 from 1999-current.

I did not know Tyler Graunke was once ahead of Colt Brennan.

I believe Ikaika Woolsey was name the starting QB during his So year. Max Whitek became available a year later, when he came to UH, he had to sit out one year. He was name QB during 1/2 of the season for Chow's last.

According to the Hawaii Athletics site, Moniz began as the 3rd string quarterback in 2009. He replaced Alexander after Alexander blew out his knee in the La Tech game. Was Shane Austin the #2 to start the year? I see Shane also started and won a game at SJSU that year.

The Moniz story is a great one. He stepped in and never relinquished the title. Would be nice to find one Bryant Moniz again.

It all depends on what offense the coaches choose to run with. In 2022 coaches implemented an offense that they switched in the first third of the season. At that stage they had to ride with whoever was picking up the new offense with two weeks of practice. Some QBs pick up schemes, routes and reads at different paces. If we are in fact moving to R&S whoever has the most experience with the R&S typically rises to the top. At this stage the QB with the most experience with the R&S at the D1 level is Schager. Both Kellen and Ferrel have practice experience. Chong has HS R&S experience. History says that it typically takes at least one year of R&S experience before the light bulb goes on. Based on history it will depend on who picks up the offense the best and works the hardest during the off season. Anyone can win the job.

I would take Farrell out of the running. (The guy with the headset on is going to HC one day.)

How many offense scheme have he heard through the headset over the years, his entire college career. He is better off learning the RNS instead of actually playing.
