I don't follow wrestling, but do wrestlers/coaches do this on purpose? Place themselves in a different weight class to have a better chance of winning by avoiding someone else? Do coaches themselves encourage their top wrestlers to do this if it means a better chance of winning?

Great question, but there are layers to it. I would say wrestlers in general will seek out tougher competition. I think more often than not a coach might want wrestlers to be at certain weights to increase their opportunities for success, but still want the athlete to test themselves against the better competition.

Kapolei boys win with the strength of 5 finalists. Kamehameha not far behind and their lineup will be better by the end of the year. Kapolei will have to improve if it wants to stay ahead of them. 250-226... Landford(KSK) and Kaaialii(KSK) should make up that difference pretty easily. ... Should be interesting.

What makes it worse is his coaches (his father bein one) condoned his actions with their protest that waste a good 20min. I would have been embarrassed if I were related to him and denied I knew him. What a black eye it puts on his school and Hawaiians.
