Also at 152, not sure if Kailer Lee (4th) is still at that weight, and Jace Kim-Cadiz (6th) is there as well.
Kim-Cadiz will be tough this weekend, but already has a couple losses this year. Boyd Durand had a pretty nice win against him last weekend and should be a player this weekend. Don't think Kailer has competed yet this season, but should be interesting wherever he goes.
Here are my terribly inaccurate finals predictions for the boys: Who knows if these guys are even at these weights lol... undereducated guess at best...
106: Guevara(MIL) v Ramos(KPO)
113: Kusumoto(KSK) v Holokai-Basa(BAL) with Berger(StL) making a run
120: Lau(MPI) v Del Rosario(LAN) but Esperanza(BAL), Marinas(BAL) and Seson(MOA) should be good
126: Somebody(MIL) v Buelow(PUN), Nitahara(KSM) or Kaohu-Wachi(NAN) could be players
132: Labuanan(KSM) v Pasion(MOA)
138: Taam(MOA) v Woolsey(KPO) with Amerson(KSK) and Paaluhi(WAN) with huge potential
145: Porter(WAN) v Paaluhi(KSK) or Cobb-Adams(StL)
152: Mercado(PUN) v Erolin(P5) ... Hasegawa(BAL), Durand(RAD), Kim-Cadiz(PC)
160: Creech(StL) v Waielehua(KSK) ... Lee(IOL)?
170: Pagurayan(KPO) v Lee(MIL) or Shields(KLH)

@808WrestlingFan - You're right Kimura is very tough and is a much clearer pick for the finals. State 3rd last year as well.
@justafan - Sorry Amerson is definitely St. Louis. and that squad looks tough. After Looking at it a little closer, it looks like the following schools will be the top 4 in no particular order:
St. Louis(8-10 placers), Kamehameha(7-9 placers), Baldwin(9-10 placers), Kapolei(7-8 placers)

I don't follow wrestling, but do wrestlers/coaches do this on purpose? Place themselves in a different weight class to have a better chance of winning by avoiding someone else? Do coaches themselves encourage their top wrestlers to do this if it means a better chance of winning?808WrestlingFan wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 12:03 amNo chance Labuan and Taam end up in the same weight. Re: 2022-2023 Wrestling Season
Great question, but there are layers to it. I would say wrestlers in general will seek out tougher competition. I think more often than not a coach might want wrestlers to be at certain weights to increase their opportunities for success, but still want the athlete to test themselves against the better competition.ChadFukuoka wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 8:51 pmI don't follow wrestling, but do wrestlers/coaches do this on purpose? Officials tournament
Wow, what an amazing finals. Lots of huge upsets. Props to Kapolei and Moanalua for winning the team titles and proving why the OIA is superior to the other leagues

Re: 2022-2023 Wrestling Season
Results with Surprises:
Team results: Moanalua girls.... wow!!! All 14 placed with 5 champs...gg
Kapolei boys win with the strength of 5 finalists. Kamehameha not far behind and their lineup will be better by the end of the year. Kapolei will have to improve if it wants to stay ahead of them. 250-226... Landford(KSK) and Kaaialii(KSK) should make up that difference pretty easily. ... Should be interesting.
106: Was pretty spot on, but Bicoy was on opposite side of the other 3, so don't really know where he stands compared to MIL and KPO
113: Holokai-Basa(BAL) losing early was definitely a surprise, then Suan(StL) making finals as a result
120: Pretty spot on, but Corpuz losing to the scale changed things up a bit. Barbour(MIL) was taking it to Marinas(BAL) until he reached back and got pinned. Looking forward to seeing him progress.
126: Happy(KSM) fell in rd one to eventual finalist Buelow(PUN). Sekulich(PUN) had a much easier path, but showed it didn't matter in the finals. McKenzie(KSK) is one to watch out for.
132: Awesome finals match. Labuanan was the better wrestler, but wasn't focused on the wrestling and it came back to bite him due to a flurry of stalling/unsportsman calls. To be noted, Shimabukuro(KPO) and Salter(KSK) didn't have a close match except for their losses to each other or Labuanan.
138: This was the Taam(MOA) and Woolsey(KPO) show. Would like to see Silva(KSM) v Woolsey though.
145: Cobb-Adams(StL), Porter(WAN), Grilho(AIE), Paaluhi(KSK) stood considerably above the rest
152: This looks like a fun weight class. Goeas(CAS) and Erolin(P5) definitely the favorites, but the others are a crapshoot for sure. Will be interesting to see what happens when Boyd(RAD) gets healthy and if Mercado(PUN) drops down.
160: Kondo(IOL) gave Mercado all he could handle in the finals. This looks like a fun weight class as well.
170: Pagurayan(KPO) and Shields(KLH) stood above the rest. Matches won by fall. Shields balled out in the finals, but we've Pagurayan lose before. He usually figures it out. Should be interesting
182: Baekkeland(MOA) .... yup ... Tanele(CAM) and Pinales(KPO) looked good in every match but against Baekkeland.
195: Kane-Keahi(LAH), Kahele-Akeo(KPO) own this weight - no one seemed close. Kane-Keahi has distanced himself from the field. SHould be interesting to see if Kahele-Akeo can make a match of it in the State Finals
220: Salangdron(KPO) stood out amonst everyone. It would have been nice to see Yong(WAN) against him. Setu(WAP) looked strong as well
285: Lauifi(WAP), Dikilato(KSK), Coelho(LEI) ... nothing to see here. It's those 3 and then the rest
Still looking through the girls brackets. There was a lot of young blood on the mats, which makes for interesting and high level wrestling these next few years.
Thoughts?

Would've been nice to see McCreadie(STL) wrestle and see how he improved from last year's states. Also heard that STL kept their main 220 guy out of competition because he is still cutting from the 285 weight class, should be interesting to see what he does against Salangdron.talloola25 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2022 11:40 pm Results with Surprises:

Lee(MIL) basically made McCreadie (STL) his biatch at the duals couple weeks ago. Too bad Lee had his MMA fight same time as Officials, would have been good to see how far the Lee family trademark dirty wrestling style would carry him.GentlemanOfTheLou wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 2:34 pmWould've been nice to see McCreadie(STL) wrestle and see how he improved from last year's states.
Thoughts?
Karma is real with Labuanan's Finals. He was a real dick in his match, showboating and all. What makes it worse is his coaches (his father bein one) condoned his actions with their protest that waste a good 20min. I would have been embarrassed if I were related to him and denied I knew him. What a black eye it puts on his school and Hawaiians.

What was the final score of the Lee Mcreadie match? Is there a reason Mcreadie wasn’t wrestling at officials?OldManJenkins wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 10:15 pmLee(MIL) basically made McCreadie (STL) his biatch at the duals couple weeks ago. Also heard that STL kept their main 220 guy out of competition because he is still cutting from the 285 weight class, should be interesting to see what he does against Salangdron.talloola25 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2022 11:40 pm Results with Surprises:

Moanalua duals are next weekend. Predictions?
Teams to watch: Kamehameha, Moanalua, Kapolei, St. Louis.... Any predictions or possible matchups you're interested in seeing?

Never got to see Corpuz vs Lau at officials. Maybe it’ll happen this time around.talloola25 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 20, 2022 6:59 pm Moanalua duals are next weekend. Predictions?
