Star power(college recruit rankings) favors MV. Mililani has one 3-star in DB/WR Gavin Hunter 6-2 190 Arizona commit.
Mission Viejo has four 3-stars.Mikey Matthews WR 5-10 WR has also played rugby for the national junior team and coaches in a youth 7on7 league. Jackson Holman 6-3 200 WR is an Arizona commit. Edward Schultz 6-1 195 WR is a Colorado commit. Getting them the ball is Kadin Semonza 6-1 190 QB.

Coaching. Rod York and MVHC Chad Johnson both run year-round programs and are highly competitive on a national scale.
Before taking the MV job in 2018,Johnson was the OC for St.John Bosco’s pass heavy offense. Now that he’s the head guy,he is showing his Old guard ground and pound approach a little more. MV will come out with the air attack and then when ground lanes open up he’ll start sending the infantry in on the ground. Johnson is also the OC for the Diablos. I don’t have to tell you guys about how coach York has built up the Mililani program.

Passing. Both teams have a good QB and multiple pass catchers.

Running. Mission Viejo will exploit run lanes when the pass opens up the ground game and the game is in their control.Mililani did not show much of a ground game against St.Louis.

Defense. Those Crusader transfers will help defending against those MV receivers.Mission Viejo gives multiple looks and hides their true intentions,. The defense they show when you come up to the line isn’t necessarily what they are going to run when the ball is snapped.

Line strength. No information on The Trojans, but I did find a little on Mission Viejo. Two of their linemen and one linebacker (starters) can power clean 295 lbs. Three linemen can do over 20 reps with a 205 lb weight. Don’t know how that compares with Mililani.

Mission Viejo has a projected 16 starters returning. The Diablos will not be rotating players to find out who can play. They have 16 guys who know how to play and were starters last year. They are are going to be a tougher opponent than St.Louis I think.

I think Mililani has a chance, but they are probably going to have to convert third downs better than they did last week.

National perceptions. Mililani is on no national Top 100,200,etc. lists that I follow. This year Kahuku and Mission Viejo appear on more than one website at different positions(depending on the site) anywhere from No.26-No.50 in the country.
I don’t think Mililani beats Kahuku. Since they are similarly ranked with Kahuku on several different websites, I think that MV wins the game.

We will see. Should be a good game.
Trojans aren't going to be able to keep up with the Diablo's receivers if the Trojan front can't bring the pressure.

The 13 sacks, tho an impressive number, needs to be taken in context.

At this point, although Kamehameha looked more prepared than St Louis, Big Red's win needs to taken into context as well. I'm pretty sure last years Warriors squad would've put up more of a fight. That freshman receiver for Kamehameha balled out. #71 for Big Red needs to improve because he got absolutely destroyed on a play that resulted in a sack. But, all in all, was a nice showing by Big Red...back to the grind and keep getting better. RRFL!

According to my South OC friends, MV is a well-oiled efficient passing offense....with a big strong Oline (who excel in pass pro). If anything, Mililani's advantage is that this is the first game for the MV Diablos.....although I'm sure that MV has already studied the Spectrum game film against STL.

In addition to WR Holman, SB Matthews, WR Schultz & QB Semonza, MV actually has 8 additional 3-star prospects (as currently rated by 247 Sports) in DE Jonathan Becerra (6-2, 230), Safety Mikey Damato (6-0, 205), OL Cody Going (6-3, 285), LB Jack Matranga (6-2, 220), OT Brady Norton (6-4, 270), SB KJ Reed (5-11, 175), LB Tommy Reese (6-1, 220), and CB Trey Tolmaire (5-11, 165). However, I would somewhat discount the 3-star prospect rating since SoCal HS kids get way more exposure than Hawaii HS kids. From what I observed of last Friday night's game, Mililani soph QB Kini McMillan looks to be 3-star prospect as could junior hybrid DE/OLB Jabiel Lauvao and soph hybrid OLB/DB Isaiah Iosefa.

One thing that could help Mililani is if MV assumes Mililani is on the same level as Baldwin, a team MV has crushed in recent visits to the islands. That may have been true 15 years ago but is nowhere near true today.

Kamehameha hosts the Warren Bears from Downey,CA this weekend.

Five-star QB Nico Iamaleava 6-6 195 leads the offense( think heavy pass
As he has tossed for over 40TD’s in a recent season). Younger brother Madden is also a QB. Last years QB is three-star Darius Cowens 6-0 170 who moves to safety as he figures that’s his position in college ball. Four-star ATH Jordan Ross 6-0 170 and three-star RB’s Marcus Higgs 5-11 220,Romeo Clark 5-11 210 can score on air or pound it on the ground as well for Higgs and Clark. Cowens will team up with three-stars CB Scooter Jackson 6-2 180 ,LB E.J. Smith 6-0 230, and DL J.T. Houston 6-2 235.coming off the edge to try to slow the Warriors offense.

I think Kamehameha won’t get shutout, but I would not predict a Warriors win in this game.

Konawaena travels to Utah to take on Granger HS.

Don’t know what to make of this one. On the face of it, Kona is small enrollment compared to Granger’s 3,100 enrollment.
You would have to say that it looks like Granger would have a pool of 1,500 boys to draw from compared to ,maybe,400 boys that the Wildcats have to draw on.

Granger was 2-9 last year in 6A,Utah’s highest prep football tier. Konawaena was the BIIF D-I champ and went to states, although they got bounced in the semifinals.

Deseret.com has a local Hs football prognosticator who has a rating system that I have no idea what it’s based on. Thing is , it rates Granger as within two points better than Kona’s rating. They have Granger as their pick to win the game.

I wonder. Kona is a state contender and Granger is being picked by one of their local observers to be in the lower half of their region, much less the state of Utah as a whole.

I think Konawaena got chance in this matchup.

Scoringlive says that Warren of CA ain't playing Kamehameha's top varsity team. It says they are playing KSK's "B team."

It's only been one quarter, but MV is dominating time of possession against Mililani. Mililani can ill afford to let Kahuku dominate TOP when they play them.

That's interesting. I wonder if Kamehemeha's varsity team suffered any injuries from last week's game against Kahuku. I don't think a mainland school would come down to Hawaii just to play a school's reserve squad. Maybe the two coaching staffs agreed to this as a last minute thing?

Maybe KSK's 2nd level team felt they needed a test to start the season. If our, KSK's, and SLS's 2nd level teams were to play non-ILH varsity teams, the best ones they could play are DII OIA teams.

I think it is Kamehameha's 2nd level team that's playing Warren tonight. Warren is leading 50-0. That or Kamehameha's top varsity team is just that bad.

Scoring Live says this is Kam's 2nd team. On a more positive note for you, Punahou leads Moanalua 21-0 at half.

35-0 now. I'm watching on OC16. I can glean that our weaknesses have been penalties, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and giving up some big plays or big plays that could've hurt us but ended up as incompletions. The thing I fear most hasn't reared its ugly head--injuries. Boy did injuries cripple us last year. A lot of kids that missed most of last season because of injuries are contributing heavily tonight.

Newport Harbor @Farrington on Friday.

The Sailors are a public school program, student body 2,300+. They have 16 starters returning for a team that won the CIF Section 6 Championship in 2021. Among their best players are QB Colten Joseph 6-3 195 4.5, DB Carson DeAvila 6-1 190 4.55, and WR Kashton Henjum 6-2 185 4.65. Joseph has been described as an elite dual threat QB. DeAvila flies to the football on defense. The Sailors have been Oahu since Sunday and seeing some of the local sights for a few days but the coaches will have them focused on football.

Farrington has had vastly different outcomes in it’s first two games. The Governors defeated a D-II Waialua squad 42-7 but was shutout by Open Division Kapolei 42-0. Talentwise,Newport Harbor resembles Kapolei much more than Waialua. I think it might be a long night for Farrington.

Anyone know why the Mililani-Kailua game is canceled?
