Right now a new Aloha Stadium is still on the table as well as Ching Field expansion. No matter what Ching Field expansion has to go through now for it to be done by beginning of next season to avoid any issues with the NCAA.
None of this makes sense. The leg says here is $300 million, do what you want?

Both stadiums have separate sources of funding.

Only thing that doesn't make sense is the timing of this by Ige.

Why wasn’t there a Model of the new stadium at the Leg and debate as to whether $300 million would be granted for that?

We got to pay back the bonds. Why no f’n oversight? I have to conclude that we have completely incompetent legislature along with idiot for a Governor. Big cities/states/colleges don’t move forward on stadium projects like this. It’s like here dude … $300 million … cha … ching …. go figure it out. Do whatever you f’n want. So shame, Wakai. Fix this.

Not sure you are up to date on all the dealings regarding both stadium situations.

The $300 million in financing was approved for a replacement for Aloha stadium. That means Ching is going to remain a temporary solution. Can the University turn away from an Aloha stadium at this point?

Ching was always going to be a temporary solution. What's in the plans now for Ching next year is obviously a temporary stadium. Bottom line is Ching needs to be expanded before start of next season. Theres no time to try and draw up plans for anything else.

Correct, the ship has left. With interest rates climbing, what are we going to get for our bonds? We had years in a nominal rate environment to float these. So we don’t even have a plan?

sounds very promising to me. was never a fan of the entertainment zone tho it was a fiscally sound plan before hawaii was running at a surplus.
Also if UH does take charge of the build, there's still red tape and bureaucracy there, but it's not at the "hawaii state" level that's more like red cement.

I mean, there obviously was a plan until it was torpedoed by Ige. We shall see how much of the previous plan is still in place.

UH is a state entity. So unless UH is given full autonomy with regards to developing and building New Aloha Stadium, there still will be red tape and bureaucracy. My concern is can UH pull of a project of this scale. The last sports related project of comparable scale was Stan Sheriff Center almost three decades ago. Other than that is the Warrior Rec Center. That took a lot longer to complete than expected.

I have hope that Josh Green can pull it together. If not they will be providing recreational pot soon. For those retired of course.

they way they've been putting up new large buildings and projects all around the campus at a reasonably fast clip for the past decade gives me some hope. a much better track record than the eternal unending delays on some of those state & c&c projects you hear about in the news. UH's maintenance of these projects once their built is a different story, but getting it up is half the battle.

The State Legislature rescinded UH's autonomy and exemption from the State procurement laws about a decade ago while UH was experiencing well-publicized construction cost overruns (around 60 percent overbudget) and 2-year schedule completion delay with the original Ching Complex project.
