I guess 3 to play 3. Completed only 45% of his passes last year. Played one game at ASU in 2019. Did pretty good against USC. 28 of 44 for 292 yds. Hopefully he can be more like he was at ASU than at Pitt.

Since he transferred once already, it appears he will not be immediately eligible unless there's some kind of exemption.
Joey Yellen, who transferred to Pitt from Arizona State in 2020, also entered the portal, according to multiple reports on Friday.
Yellen will have three years of eligibility available but might have to sit out a season if he joins a Football Bowl Subdivision team due to the NCAA’s transfer rules.

Signed with Arizona State University (ASU) as a 4-star QB recuit out of Mission Viejo HS (Mission Viejo, CA.) back in 2019 in the same Signing Class as eventual ASU starting QB Jayden Daniels. Redshirted his true frosh 2019 season at ASU (after starting in 1 game) then transferred to Pittsburgh in January 2020 (and was granted a waiver to be immediately eligible in August 2020; before the NCAA transfer rule change in April 2021) so should still be classified as an incoming redshirt sophomore with 3 to play 3.

Looks like he sat out 2020 after transferring.

Forgot, I think the one time waiver only applies when he transfers from his original school. So he would need a waiver.

I suspect he will be eligible this season, otherwise why take him when we need a QB to challenge Schager this season.

I am not worried about the QB position anymore. This is a real nice pickup. I think it could be that our new OC may be one of the reasons. Players out there know that we are looking for a starter. I like the competition.

Apparently, he's a grad transfer.

We've got an ASU/Pitt qb, a WSU qb, and Armani Edden (Threw for 3,044 yards and 27 touchdowns, while completing 63.7 percent of his passes.
Also rushed for 277 yards and six touchdowns.) Schager started a few games last year. Jake Farrell looks pretty good too. Yeah, I'd say we don't need any more qb's.

yeller is getting most of his passes off in under three seconds on target even in scrambles. of course this was a highlight reel, but, still that's impressive. glad my season tickets were held for this year. go warriors.

Looks like he may not be a grad transfer. According to Tsai this morning
Pittsburgh is expected to sign off on a double-transfer release that will allow Yellen to play immediately for the Warriors. Yellen said he did not want to get into “super detail” but expressed confidence the waiver will be finalized.
