Soli was rated as a 4 star DE recruit by both 247 and Rivals. He started 11 games as a true Freshman, but saw his time decline a lot the last two seasons.

The more I learn about Soli, the more I think he has the potential to be a big contributor for the defense this year. We sorely need to get pressure out of our DL and not have to blitz so much. Hopefully Soli will be the catalyst for that pass rush.

I'll feel better when he actually signs and is on the field practicing.

Wow...just wow. This kid was offered by Saban (Alabama) they only target the best in the country... besides offers from other SEC programs. 35 offers from all the big boy schools.
Super excited to see this guy hit the field. His ability to use speed and leverage to get to the QB is clear in his film. This is those next level guys UH needs to compete with the top dogs in the MWC. Let's go TC keep landing these top tier players.

See...the portal can work in our favor. Welcome home, kid. (I know he isn't from Hawaii.)

Coach Keiki Misipeka did it again. He got Lester Laisene Lagafuaina from American Samoa too this year. He has a boatload of experience and credibility in recruiting Samoan athletes. The Samoa connection is back up and running.

UH linebacker Penei Pavihi — a former teammate of Soli’s from youth league football in American Samoa — was Soli’s host on his recruiting visit. The program’s Island Day spring game also contributed to his decision to commit to Hawaii.
“It was a great experience for me, I seen how (it) brought in everybody,” Soli said. “I seen how close the team was. It really brought everything together.”
“Mataio just brings a lot of athleticism for us. He gives us a pass-rushing threat on all downs — not just on third downs,” UH defensive coordinator Jacob Yoro said. “We’re excited about him as a player, and he continues to develop and he’s done a great job out here so far.”

Never good to see a medical retirement. Best wishes to him and hope he moves on to other things in life.
Next man up. Glad to see "Baby Choi" getting the start. Good they are trying to change things up.
