4/9/22 Spring Practice Notes

Practice continued with lots of emphasis on techniques and fundamentals. The offense and defense continued with their installs. The coaches have each position group work on their part of the scheme, then put the several position groups together and finally all 11.

TC clearly values special teams and dedicates significant time to it each practice I’ve been to. This week, it seemed 20% of the practice was devoted to special teams. With Sheffield specifically coaching special teams, there’s a lot more attention to details than last year.

The offense did better than last week during the scrimmage. Only one tipped ball interception and one fumble. There were lots of redzone touchdowns. Parson ran for one and caught another. Walthall, Scott, Caleb Phillips and Fiso also caught TDs. Schager, Apo, Eddins, Cooper and Farrell all threw one TD.

It looks like the coaches are still mixing and matching giving lots of players opportunities. In particular, all QBs are getting live reps. Previous positions noted below are from last Saturday.

The offense first group included Bernal-Wendt at LG, Arasi Mose at RG from C and Grey Ihu at WR. The second group had Muasau at C from RG, Maurice Taala at RG from C. Third group had Adams at C from G.

The defense first group D had Kahahawai-Welch and Choi at OLB.

The incoming transfer LBs, Blanks, Kema and Hoohuli are all running with the second group now. Hoohuli is at the OLB position.

Noa Kamana was with the first group at S.

Recruits were in attendance. Some were local, others appeared to be from the mainland.
