I like Chang's perspective on the portal. It's also a place to recruit players, like JC transfers. If they end up good, then go get them. So just because UH did not recruit them, or they choose to sign somewhere else, still - get chance. If not now, then later.
the transfer portal can be great for us. if you are a P5 athlete who maybe hasn't seen the playing time you thought you were going to see when you signed with that big school and you want to transfer, what better place to go than to come here? You already had a taste of the P5 facilities and all that, but you rather get on the field and live somewhere you never thought you'd get to live.

People of Hawaii have to stop thinking like losers and focusing on our shortcomings so much and appreciate the unique things we do have going for us. if coach chang can make this place fun again, they'll want to come here.

Michigan State football OL Jacob Isaia enters the transfer portal

Michigan State football legacy offensive lineman Jacob Isaia has entered his name into NCAA’s transfer portal. Isaia was a member of MSU’s 2018 recruiting class and has been a reserve offensive lineman during his time in East Lansing.

Isaia is the grandson of former MSU fullback Bob Apisa, who was an All-American and helped lead the Spartans to National Championships in 1965 and 1966.

Isaia came to Michigan State from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. He never started a game in his Spartan career.

His eligibility clock started in 2016 at UH (where he played both the 2016 & 2017 seasons before leaving). Accordingly, doing the math (2016 for Year 1; 2017 for Year 2; 2018 redshirt; 2019 for Year 3; 2020 & 2021 for Year 4), it would seem as though his eligibility clock expired already...unless he got some kind of eligibility waiver for 2018 or 2019 to allow him to still have 1 to play 1.

Nebraska is losing a young defensive player to the transfer portal.

Redshirt freshman outside linebacker Wynden Ho'ohuli entered his name Friday, the Journal Star confirmed, making him the seventh scholarship player to leave the program since late November.

Ho'ohuli (6-foot-3 and 220 pounds) was a heralded prospect out of Hawaii, checking in as a consensus four-star recruit and considered one of the top 200 players in the 2021 class by both Rivals and 247Sports.

Ho'ohuli was the first Hawaiian player to sign with Nebraska since 1999 and played his high school ball at powerhouse Mililani High on O'ahu.

Just for some perspective about the impact of the NLI and the one-time no penalty transfer portal.

The transfer portal has opened up all P5 and G5 schools to talent that we would rarely get before. But from what I'm hearing the it also has impacted the high school recruits.

They say about 500 high school recruits that normally get offers didn't get offers last year. And this year might be the same. So those high school recruits that got offers are truly blessed.

Those 500 high school recruits that didn't get a offer last year, either had to walk-on, go JUCO, FCS or just stop football all together. The NLI and the transfer portal is a game changer for better or worse.

But on the bright side those 4-Star recruits that didn't pan out at P5 schools for reasons like injury or whatever. Hawaii has a chance at some of them that they would never had before the transfer portal. Of course, Alabama, Texas, USC, Texas A&M, Georgia, Ohio State and the elite P5 will get the 5-Star transfer portal players, after losing some 5-Star players to the other elite programs. That means Hawaii and some of the not elite P5 or G5 programs won't getting many or any 5-Star transfer or High School players. But there will be statically just by more volume of 4-Stars players than 5 Star players, Hawaii will have better chance to land 4-Star players from the transfer portal. If Timmy and his staff recruit wisely, Hawaii could be a surprise dark horse the next few seasons.

That's I'm not as worried about the 2Feb21 signing day as much, because of the transfer portal options. I will give you an example, Kansas Jay Hawks was a rock bottom P5 Football program. But because they recruited heavily in the transfer portal last season, they ended up building very solid roster that beat some of the better P5 schools. That instant success is possible with the right transfer portal talent. I believe Hawaii can replicate the success that Kansas has already done.

So, spreads out the talent rather than sitting buried by the depth chart when the portal offers them possible playing time in a less visible school without penalizing by having them sit out a year. I'm in ... :hello1:

he doesn't have stats at Adams State from 19-21. I'm guessing he got injured and is receiving a medical hardship waiver.
