What harm did it do to the program? Not more harm than all the starters who transferred out because of Graham. It got TG out the door without a buyout. The hearing was a success.Arcumfortis wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 8:08 am The TG era will undoubtedly be seen through different lenses and with different perspectives. The great majority of us fans will be left with less than complete information - and filling in the blanks might say more about our own biases than any comprehensive accounting of the truth. The one thing I can feel solid about is the inappropriateness of the legislature publicly grandstanding when all could have been handled more subtlety. This was damaging to the program, publicly shaming of TG, and certainly would have provided ammo to our recruiting rivals. I have hope for the future of UH football but a realistic caution about expecting too much in these first years. I think we all need to move on - but it pokes at us a bit when a major TG recruit like Shrager drops hints about then and now. It just stirs it all up again when it probably would be best to let it all go.
I find that sometimes there is extra emphasis on things that bring perceived shame and not enough emphasis on things that have measurable consequences. People have quickly forgotten how much of a disappointment the 2021 season was, even before the mass exodus of players. People who don't believe that there were problems off the field weren't paying attention to what was going on on the field. The roster was loaded with talent and grossly underperformed. One more year of that with even less talent would have done major damage to the program for years to come.
The damage done by the Senate committee quickly washed away with the next news cycle. Shame is temporary, and self-shame only lasts as long as you choose to hold onto it The damage that would have been done by one more year of todd and bo would have been much worse, as no one wants to watch a team that isn't fun to watch. We should be thanking the committee for being the bad guy and inducing change.
