The great majority of us fans will be left with less than complete information - and filling in the blanks might say more about our own biases than any comprehensive accounting of the truth. The one thing I can feel solid about is the inappropriateness of the legislature publicly grandstanding when all could have been handled more subtlety. This was damaging to the program, publicly shaming of TG, and certainly would have provided ammo to our recruiting rivals. I have hope for the future of UH football but a realistic caution about expecting too much in these first years. I think we all need to move on - but it pokes at us a bit when a major TG recruit like Shrager drops hints about then and now. It just stirs it all up again when it probably would be best to let it all go.
What harm did it do to the program? Not more harm than all the starters who transferred out because of Graham. It got TG out the door without a buyout. The hearing was a success.

I find that sometimes there is extra emphasis on things that bring perceived shame and not enough emphasis on things that have measurable consequences. People have quickly forgotten how much of a disappointment the 2021 season was, even before the mass exodus of players. People who don't believe that there were problems off the field weren't paying attention to what was going on on the field. The roster was loaded with talent and grossly underperformed. One more year of that with even less talent would have done major damage to the program for years to come.

The damage done by the Senate committee quickly washed away with the next news cycle. Shame is temporary, and self-shame only lasts as long as you choose to hold onto it The damage that would have been done by one more year of todd and bo would have been much worse, as no one wants to watch a team that isn't fun to watch. We should be thanking the committee for being the bad guy and inducing change.

It's hard being physically close to the program and not being extra frustrated by what's gone on for the past two years... and then come on here and debate others who are further away and have a different "perspective". And you can't even reference some of what we hear or we'll get accused of spreading fake news or for perpetuating the "coconut wireless". Ultimately, the gross rationalization of TG's problems was too much for me and I had to step out of the conversation for a while.

With that said, I have heard that at least some of the influential people who were pushing for JJ to get the job have been very impressed by TC thus far and are very supportive of him. What impressed them most is the plans he has laid out for them in terms of building his staff, recruiting, and managing the challenges AND ADVANTAGES of being at UH, as well as his grasp of "fit" and the importance of culture.

Culture seems to be of importance to TC, just as it is important to players, both current and former. Even players who played for Tomey believe this. That's why I cannot comprehend those who rationalize TG's approach to team culture. Even prior to his hire, if you say anything about the candidates needing to have ties to the program, people come out with the pitchforks and accuse you of being small-minded. The path to coaching successfully at UH is different from every other school. You can be in denial of that, or you can accept reality and lean into it. TC is leaning all the way in, and that's a good thing.
Dude. Just...dude.

The two of you are awesome contributors. Let's just not get caught up in the propaganda of TG was bad and TC is good. I don't get it. That's it. Messaging can be misconstrued on this forum. Maybe I misunderstood and the two of you also. Rolovich suffered a 3-9 season at Hawaii in his first two years. His first two years were much worse than Graham's. With the early departure of Rolovich and his staff--and the advent of covid, Graham's first two years were destined to mediocrity. Still, he shined in the win over Houston....and in beating other ranked teams.

I'm just not gonna hate on Graham. That's it.

I am hopeful for Hawaii football.

TC having the local players "adopt" the mainland players to build a stronger Braddahhood. This is something he learned from June Jones. Rolovich did the same thing.

CFB 2nd Year Coaches Ranking, where does TC stand?

Post by BigWave96744 »

College football second-year coach grades: Kalen DeBoer earns 'A+' mark, Billy Napier gets 'D'
By Tom Fornelli

Patience is a virtue in short supply these days. College football coaches were once afforded time to establish their programs, but in NIL and the transfer portal era, coaches are asked to get the job done much quicker. Coaches used to have at least three seasons on the job before reaching a final conclusion. Now, if you haven't shown significant progress by the end of Year 2, you're either cut loose or on a short leash heading into Year 3.
See below at where TC ranks among coaches heading into year 3
