On the subject of picking games, who else misses the weekly pick'ems that appeared in years past?
@gopunahou:
1.) Kahuku will have 3 players suspended.
2.) Waianae seems to have a pass game.

Even if Kahuku wins, I don't think it will be by as much as 20 points. Furthermore, I doubt that they'll shut Waianae out. If Waianae is "just what the doctor ordered," it might be time to find another doctor.
I doubt Waianae’s pass game will do well against Kahuku
@genks:
OK, but then the question arises: How well will Kahuku's O--pass or run--do against Waianae's D? For Kahuku to go from losing 32-0 to Mililani, to winning 20-0 over Waianae, seems to be something of a stretch. In addition, again: Kahuku will have 3 players suspended. I could see Kahuku winning 20-0 over, say, Farrington, but over Waianae?

Yeah 20-0 could be a stretch. Waianae may lack lots of areas but they are usually pretty tough up front. If Kahuku is missing 2 starters on offense, someone can correct me but they both o linemen? Could make things tough. I remember Waianae coming so close to beating Kahuku when Soljay and Maunga was still here. Soljay threw a pick, and on the return he facemasked the defender which wasn’t called. I think It would’ve put Waianae’s offense in the 10 yard line or something like that. Waianae would’ve had a chance to win.

Anyways long story short I agree maybe not 20-0 but Kahuku should win.

One question: will Kapolei be the 1st team to score a touchdown against us this year?

Don’t think so.They didn’t have a prayer against our 1st team defense. Mix of a few 1st team mixed into the 2nd team held them, a few guys deep in the depth chart came in and they scored 1 TD.

They have athletes and Bailey is competent, but he had a rough time with the pressure. Stribling is a real play maker but I’m sure you will scheme to contain him

I finally saw the game on tv with a better view. They ruled a great diving catch as incomplete. Jayden didn’t throw a single incomplete pass in that game which is nuts.

Kahuku barely beats Kamehameha

They’re lucky they escaped with a win.

Punahou barely beats Kamehameha

Nothing lol

I just think we’re making early assumptions on teams this early in the season. We won’t know teams true identities until October.

If anything Mililani has definitely shown their the biggest threat to St. Louis (kind of)

I don’t think Kahuku was lucky at all, nor would I use the term escaped with a win. I thought Kahuku’s offense was not good, and they maybe got a little excited holding Kam Witt their 1st team defense. But I would say Kahuku owned that game. Some shenanigans with the score and Kam maybe would’ve gone to OT but even if they did, scoring was a huge problem for Kam. I would feel very comfortable saying Kahuku would’ve scored 1st even if it went to OT. The score didn’t tell the whole story of that game.

I would’ve loved to see my division rivals go at it to see what we may be dealing with but I couldn’t watch Kam vs Punahou. I have a feeling the score doesn’t tell the story of that game either and the momentum was most likely on Punahou’s side all game.

Just couldn’t comment because I didn’t watch it

Kamehameha’s first and last drives of the game were the only time they threatened to score (they did at the start of the game). Our offense took its sweet time all game to get something going—tons of dropped passes or miscommunication between JK and his receivers. Kamehameha’s supposedly best offensive player—Skyler Ramos—only touched the ball about three times but injured himself in the 3rd quarter. Vincent Terrell put us in scoring position at least three times in the 3rd quarter, but we couldn’t capitalize. Our blocked punt and KSK’s bad field position on the ensuing position led to our two TD’s. I think if Hugh played, the score might’ve been 29-5 or 36-5.

Week Three,

1.St.Louis 1-0 beat Kapolei. No.4 Campbell next.
2.Punahou 3-0 Freshman QB's performance came back closer to the ground this week.No.6 Kapolei next.
3.Mililani 2-0 shutout Kahuku.
4.Campbell1-1 move up two places with a win.
5.Kahuku 1-1 drop one spot with a loss.
6.Kapolei 2-1 drop one spot with a loss.
7.Hilo 1-0 move up one with a win.
8.Leilehua 3-0 knocked Waipahu out of the top ten.
9.Kamehameha 0-2 drop two spots with a loss.
10.Iolani 2-1 rejoin the top ten with a win. D-II contender Kaimuki next.

Sagapolutele had a rougher outing this week against a legit Kamehameha defense as you might expect from a freshman being thrown into the fire.He's learning and eventually can get the offense rolling like Brady.

I'm not doing a D-II rank this year, but I still keep an eye on them. Lahainaluna beat Kapaa by less than a touchdown. Might be a rematch for the Koa at states. Roosevelt and Kaimuki look strong out of the OIA and Kaiser might surprise some people.

Believe me, No one was impressed by Kahuku’s win over Kamehameha besides their Defense. Their victory was overshadowed by Kamehameha’s comeback & bad calls by the ref.

If Hugh Brady played, Punahou would of won with ease.

Fortunately, JK has another tune up game this week vs. Kapolei. Schedule works out in his favor in terms of gaining confidence before his first real test against Long Beach Poly on the road.

Did Alakai Gilman play?

@gopunahou: Quite possibly. The only reason Farrington and Kamehameha couldn't score a TD on you guys is that both schools have such pathetic offenses. You might want to worry about how close the game will be. Remember, Brady's out, and Kapolei's O doesn't suck like Farrington's and Kamehameha's.

@genks:
The question is: Is Punahou's first-string D as good as St Louis'?

@teamhawaii: I'm not so sure it's too "early" to make some assumptions. Kamehameha lost to Punahou because of sucky special-teams play. Though Kahuku got blown-out by Mililani, the margin was due in large part to sucky special-teams play. So, at this point, both Kamehameha and Kahuku have sucky special teams and sucky offenses. Is it too "early" to come-out and say that? I don't think so; it's emerged as something of a pattern. (It's kind of unusual that Kahuku would have a sucky O, but I guess this might be an unusual year.)

I do agree that Mililani is the biggest threat to St Louis. I'd be surprised if those two schools didn't meet in the State final, just as they did last year.

@genks: I don't think "mo" was on Punahou's side until the 4th qrtr, as Kamehameha led all the way into the 4th qrtr. As I mentioned in a previous post, Kamehameha lost because of sucky special-teams play. Kamehameha's special teams allowed Punahou to block a punt, and Punahou recovered deep in Kamehameha's territory. That's what allowed Punahou to score the go-ahead TD.
