TAMPA — Hindsight might be 20/20. But in the case of Marcus Mariota’s historic NFL debut, so was foresight. Most
didn’t know what to expect on Sunday, but the Titans sure did.

Forty-eight hours before kickoff, quarterbacks coach John McNulty was trying to put into words what he had seen during
the four months since the Titans had drafted Mariota with the second overall pick. The young quarterback’s football
intelligence, and his ability to quickly process schemes at the line of scrimmage, McNulty explained, was on par with any
veteran he’s seen in his 13 years of coaching in the NFL.

Greg Cosell's Week 1 analysis: Inside Marcus Mariota's great debut

By Greg Cosell

Shutdown Corner

Marcus Mariota’s great debut was a convergence of coaching that put him in positions to succeed, and Mariota’s skillfully executing the plays.

Tennessee Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt and his staff did an outstanding job with their rookie quarterback. There were a lot of quick drops and
defined throws. They had excellent concepts, especially in the red zone, to get receivers open. But a great plan doesn’t work if the quarterback
can’t execute, and Mariota was decisive and accurate, making tight throws into small windows. He was impressive. Mariota was particularly
outstanding from the shotgun, which was a staple for him at Oregon. He went 10-of-10 for 176 yards and two touchdowns from the shotgun.

I was really impressed with Mariota and his performance. I don't want to rush to any conclusions after only one game though, he did play against a pretty bad Bucs team. I want to see how he will react when he faces a good defense that roughs him up.

When the Titans return to action Sunday against Buffalo, they’ll do so as one of the more explosive passing attacks in the NFL.

Strange as that might sound to fans who’ve watched this team labor through the air for the last few years, the Titans — thanks
in large part to rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota — are now capable of ripping off big chunks of yardage and scoring more often
via the passing attack.

Marcus Mariota: I've Learned a Lot During Rookie Season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota isn’t ready to close the book on his rookie season just yet.

Mariota’s already been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Texans with a right knee injury, but he’s still hoping
to play in the season finale against the Colts on January 3.

“If I feel great, I look forward to playing in the last game,’’ Mariota said Wednesday. “We’ll take this week and get
healthy as much as I can and see what it feels like on Monday and go through the evaluation process. And if I feel
ready to go and I can do it, I will definitely be out there on the field.”

Marcus Mariota pulled the familiar “8” over his head, but the jersey was an unfamiliar color.

Gold.

The Tennessee Titans star quarterback stepped on the ice Tuesday night at Bridgestone Arena
and waved a rally towel to help hype the crowd before the Nashville Predators defeated the
San Jose Sharks 4-1 for their first victory in a best-of-seven-game NHL Stanley Cup playoff
series they trail 2-1. Game 4 is Thursday in Nashville.

What to expect from Titans QB Marcus Mariota in second season

By John Glennon
June 4, 2016

Indianapolis on Jan. 3, 2016. AJ Mast / AP

Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota made plenty of magic happen during his rookie season,
piling up more than 2,800 yards passing, throwing 19 touchdowns and recording an 87-yard
scramble to the end zone.

So what should fans expect for an encore?

Based on the progress made by recent highly drafted quarterbacks between their first and
second seasons as starters, it’s reasonable to expect even better numbers from Mariota
in 2016.
