Re: 2010, 2011, and 2013 UH FOOTBALL RECRUITING
i wonder if rowley is projected to play OT in college. previously, ive always seen him listed as OG/DL, but scout has been listing him as an OT. he is rated pretty high. who would have known that Waialua would produce 2 of the top OT prospects in the state in the same year!
Crabb, Hatchie, Rowley. i hope we can land at least 1 of them.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/ind ... RecruitingWhen you're a Polynesian linebacker from Eureka (Calif.), it's going to be tough to avoid the comparisons to former USC All-American linebacker Rey Maualuga. For Soma Vainuku, he relishes it.
Vainuku, who is actually cousins with Maualuga, plays both linebacker and fullback and is being recruited as an athlete right now. As a junior, he saw more action at fullback rushing for 869 yards and 14 touchdowns while adding 34 tackles on defense.
"Washington was the first school to offer me and I also have an offer from Oregon State," Vainuku said. "Hawaii is about to offer and I'm hearing a lot from Arizona State, UCLA, Oregon, BYU and a few others.
"USC is a school I've always liked a lot and I'm going to camp with them in the summer. I also like Oregon, UCLA and BYU in addition to the schools that have offered me.
"Right now, everyone is looking at me as an athlete and saying I can try out for either side of the ball. I like linebacker though, that's where I plan to work out at the Nike Camp, but I like both spots a lot."
Vainuku said he'll also camp with Oregon as well as the All-Poly camp.

Anaheim (Calif.) Servite quarterback Cody Fajardo is keeping his options open as he waits for offers to come in...
Anaheim (Calif.) Servite quarterback Cody Fajardo helped lead the Friars to a share of the Trinity League title as a junior, and with Keith Price (Washington) and Matt Barkley (USC) now gone to college, returns as the Trinity League's top quarterback.
Fajardo is hoping to have a big spring, and open some more eyes in his quest for his first offer.
"Recruiting is going great so far," said Fajardo. "I am just waiting for the Elite 11 camp so I can get a little more exposure."
Fajardo is still waiting for the first offer to roll through, but he's been in contact with several schools.
"Hawaii and I have been exchanging e-mails very often," said Fajardo. "I have just received an e-mail from the Oregon Ducks stating how much they liked my film and how they want me to attend their camp. Oregon State has been sending me letters on there school and camps. Arizona State and Penn State and I keep in touch as well and they send me some camp info as well. So those are my main interests right now. All of them I believe are showing some high interest in me."
And five are standing out for Fajardo.
"My top five right now in order would have to be Oregon, Hawaii, Oregon State, Arizona State and Penn State," said Fajardo.
Fajardo earned First Team All-Trinity League honors after throwing for 1,588 yards and 15 touchdowns and rushing for nine touchdowns in 2008.
I'm sure that we'll get to see QB prospect Cody Fajardo play this coming season in a televised game on FSN Prime Ticket...since Servite HS almost always plays at least one (1) televised game each season.
BTW, there is a Hawaii connection with Servite HS. UH AD Jim Donovan is a Servite alum.
Hopefully UH also looking at Cody's teammate DT Kirifi Taula...

An update on prospect John Timu....Sportsbow wrote:Nice find kapakahi. Thanks. BTW! I think his name is actually John Timu. Not John Timo like that article stated. By Rick Kimbrel, Recruiting Analyst
Athlete prospect John Timo (6-3, 195, 4.56) from Long Beach (Calif.) Jordan is definitely one to watch out of the class of 2010. He earned his league’s Player of the Year as a junior. To give you an idea what an accomplishment that is, he plays in the same league with likes of Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, Lakewood and Compton. There’s a boatload of D-I talent in that league.
“John is a special player,” Jordan coach Thomas Barnes said. “He does everything for us. Not only does he play quarterback, but he does our placekicking, punting and plays free safety.”
There is no truth to the rumor that Timo works the snack bar during halftime, but he does just about everything else.
From his quarterback position, Timo threw for 1,395 yards and 15 touchdowns. The talented Timo also makes plays with his feet as he rushed for 642 yards and scored five touchdowns on the ground.
On the defensive side of the ball, Timo racked up 27 tackles, three fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
“John is a solid leader who leads more by his play than vocally,” Barnes said. “He doesn’t say much until crunch time, except to make sure everyone is lined up correctly, but when the pressure is on he will become vocal.”
“In one game this season we were down by two touchdowns and then he just took over the game,” Barnes said. “We ended up winning the game 31-27.”
“John is very competitive, he hates to lose,” Barnes said. “Even in wind sprints, he goes after it.”
In the weight room, his current bench is 250 and his squat is 385.
Timo attended the NIKE Camp held in Los Angeles and he is planning on participating at the NIKE Camp once again. According to Barnes, he will also attend one of UCLA’s team camps this summer.
On the recruiting front, Timo already has two offers on his plate from Oregon and Hawai’i. He is getting early recruiting action Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, Washington, Idaho and Utah.

Timu is a major talent
One of the state's best players who no one talks about is Long Beach Jordan (Calif.) two-way standout John Timu. Timu is one of the most versatile players in the region and could play on either side of the ball in college.
I first saw Timu at the SoCal Nike Camp a year ago and he was easily among the top receivers in attendance. As a rising junior, he was overshadowed some by a few bigger name seniors but his overall hands, body control and athleticism were as good as anyone's at the camp.
Timu then went out and had a big junior season earning Moore League MVP honors, which considering the Moore league boast players from Long Beach Poly, Lakewood and Compton, that's saying something. Timu has the ability to play safety or receiver in college and is getting looks as an athlete right now. He picked up early offers from Hawaii and Oregon
"Right now, I like Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, UCLA and Arizona," Timu said. "I'm open though and don't plan to make an early commitment anywhere. I want to take some visits first before I do anything."

• Joshua Quezad, running back, La Habra (Calif.) High.

Apparently Clay is in the mold of former LB Poly receivers Travon Patterson (with USC), Terrence Austin (with UCLA) and Desean Jackson (formerly with Cal Bears; now with Philadelphia Eagles)....smaller, quick & speedy...with good hands.
As for other potential SB prospects in So Cal in the Class of 2010....my Long Beach friends mentioned to me that fellow LB Poly RB/SB Cory Westbrook http://hscalifornia.scout.com/a.z?s=153 ... id=3383754 would make an awesome SB for UH. Also, one of my other South Bay friends mentioned to me that Crenshaw HS (alma mater for Abe & Solly Elimimian) has a small quick slot receiver in Geno (sp?) Hall.
Don't let the name fool you 'cuz he's at least part Samoan...and might have relatives in Hawaii. I'm hoping that UH starts taking an early look at offering Ryan Edwards....since Roman Sapolu (from nearby Huntington Beach Edison) has already been offered.
Interesting that Warriors would offer Wilson but not Ryan. My Long Beach friends did mention to me that Wilson was the starting OG (opposite of Ryan)...but talked more about Ryan...than Wilson. My guess that Wilson might be playing some DT next season for LB Poly. I'm also guessing that a scholie offer by Warriors to Ryan Edwards might be in the works as well.madeinhawaii wrote:Some names from Stephen Tsai's blogApril 17th, 2009 by Stephen Tsai

Surprisingly...absolutely no mention of UH Warriors!Lagafuaina one to watch
It was a strong group of defensive lineman at the recent Nike Camp at USC two weeks ago. One player who clearly emerged as one of the elite tackles in the West region was Lawrence Lagafuaina (Aiea, Hawaii)
http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiti ... d%3d92697.
In a group of tackles that included Utah's Ricky Heimuli and Cali standouts Cassius Marsh and George Uko, Lagafuaina more than held his own.
"The Heimuli kid is the best defensive tackle I've seen this year at any Nike Camp," lead Nike DL coach Marty Spalding said. "After him, I would put Lagafuaina as the second best guy of the day for me. For his size, he's incredibly quick. He was the quickest tackle we had and it was amazing watching how explosive off the ball he was."
Lagafuaina measured in at a solid 6-feet, 319 pounds and is a load to move. He's very strong, uses his hands well and can really get up the field. After watching him up close, it's surprising he's only holding two offers right now.
"UCLA and UNLV are my offers right now," Lagafuaina said. "I'm hearing from a few other schools too but no one else has mentioned offering. Right now, I like UCLA a lot since they have offered along with USC and UNLV. Those are my top three but I'm still pretty open and I want to see who else is going to recruit me before making any decisions."
Check out the video from the SC Nike Camp. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYXSy5p_I8M
West Notes
• Eureka (Calif.) linebacker Soma Vainuku has offers from Oregon State and Hawaii after his initial offer from Washington. Vainuku measured in at 6-0½, 251 pounds at the Nike Camp at USC but showed amazing athleticism for a big man and is definitely someone worth watching this summer.http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiti ... Id%3d84325
• Sleeper running back Joshua Quezada landed his third offer from New Mexico State. Hawaii and Fresno State were the first to offer the bruising tailback who rushed for over 1,600 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiti ... Id%3d82861

Re: 2010, 2011, and 2013 UH FOOTBALL RECRUITING
maybe lagafuaina doesnt have much interest in hawaii which is why the coaches have not offered him? im really hoping the coaches focus on the big boys this year and build from the trenches out. we ended up not getting any HS DTs last recruiting season w/ the exception of maybe Marcus Malepeai growing into a DT.
we did much better than in prior years w/ the OL getting Makainai, Maafala and Loeffler. it would have been nice if we kept Burton. if Maafala doesnt qualify, that would be a huge blow to the recruiting class. so we may still end up w/ only 2 recruits. i think we need to bump it to 4-5 HS OL recruits this year.
theres a lot of talent in the trenches this year, I hope Shaw works his magic.
kapakahi, any word if the coaches have begun looking at the other Edwards boy from LB Poly?
