NFL Hawaiians
Earlier, one of our local papers ran an article about the 30 "NFL Hawaiians" that were in the league (at that time). I wonder if there's a new list now that the rosters are set? I'd be interested in practice squad guys too, since that's where a few of our players ended up.
Anyone know?

Here's a list of NFL Hawaiians either on the 53-man roster or practice squad. I hope it's accurate...
Reagan Mauia - FB, Miami, 1st yr. (UH)
Samson Satele - C, Miami, 1 (Kailua, UH)
Tala Esera - G/T, Miami, 1 (Kahuku, UH)
Dane Uperesa - T, Cincy, 1 (Punahou, UH)
Melila Purcell - DE, Cleveland, 1 (UH)
Chris Kemoeatu - G, Pittsburgh, 3 (Kahuku)
Chris Naeole - G, Jacksonville, 11 (Kahuku)
Vincent Manuwai - G, Jacksonville, 5 (Farrington, UH)
Travis Laboy - DE, Tennessee, 4 (UH)
Jesse Mahelona - DT, Tennessee, 2 (Kona?)
Jason Elam - K, Denver, 15 (UH)
Matt McBriar - P, Dallas, 4 (UH)
Kimo Von Oelhoffen - DT, Philly, 14 (Molokai)
Olin Kreutz - C, Chicago, 10 (St. Louis)
Ikaika Alama-Francis - DE, Detroit, 1 (Kalaheo, UH)
Dominic Raiola - C, Detroit, 7 (St. Louis)
Kynan Forney - G, Atlanta, 8 (UH)
Maake Kemoeatu - DT, Carolina, 6 (Kahuku)
Aaron Francisco - S, Arizona, 3 (Kahuku)
Pisa Tinoisamoa - LB, St. Louis, 5 (UH)
Ashley Lelie - WR, San Francisco, 6 (Radford, UH)
Jeff Ulbrich - LB, San Francisco, 8 (UH)
Isaako Sopoaga - DT, San Francisco, 4 (UH)
Other Hawaii Connections (I think?)
Kevin Mawae - C, Tennessee, 15 (Father is from Hawaii?)
Kawika Mitchell - LB, NYG, 5 (Part-Hawaiian?)
Lofa Tatupu - LB, Seattle, 3 (Dad is from Punahou)
The guys (off the top of my head) that got released this year are Nate Ilaoa, Leonard Peters, Lawrence Wilson, Toniu Fonoti, Chad Owens, Enoka Lucas. I probably am missing a few.

Mahalo Ypo! Beer for you!
That's a list that I can start from. Kawika Mitchell btw, was born here, hence his Hawaiian first name. I believe that's the extent of his connection to Hawaii. I know Adrian Klemm got cut by the Raiders, and haven't heard about him since. And how about that LB Freddy Keiaho of the Colts? He was on fire last night. I never heard of him before last night - anyone know about this guy?

I think Keiaho is from the mainland (CA). He went to SDSU.Haynr8dr wrote:Mahalo Ypo! Beer for you! That's a list that I can start from. You're right about Klemm. A couple other guys that got cut was LB Joe Lobendahn (sp?) from UW & Cliff Russell from Campbell HS. Both were cut from the Lions. I know I'm still missing some other guys.

#1 I don't think this was meant to be a thread against Wyoming.wyokie wrote:O.K. I conceid (sp?). Hawaii has more guys in the pros than my favorite school does. We only have 6-7 guys in the big leagues now.
#2 This is a list of guys who are either from here or went to UH. They didn't all go to UH.
But since you brought it up, 15 of them did go to UH.

Actually, I was joking around. I always thought Wyoming had more. I bet that between 1960 and now UW has had more players on NFL rosters than UH has had.H20 wrote:#1 I don't think this was meant to be a thread against Wyoming.wyokie wrote:O.K. I conceid (sp?). It's a general comment. Not a "living in the past" one.YpoWarrior wrote:Wyokie is still living in the past....wyokie wrote:Actually, I was joking around. I always thought Wyoming had more.
