Why hasn't Benji Kemoeatu not signed yet for West Virginia? I would love for him to have a change of heart and play for the Warriors.

I heard (though not confirmed) that Benji's parents were out of town and were not able to sign . The NLI is not valid without a parents signature if the athlete is under 18

Kahai Choy, a 6-foot-1, 260-pound center prospect from the Kamehameha School in Honolulu, Hawai'i, has decided to accept a preferred walk-on to the University of Hawai'i, starting in the fall of 2008.

"This year I had offers from Saint Francis and some other D2's and D3's but I really wanted a D1 (offer)," Choy said. "I had BYU, UNLV, and Kansas offer me as a prefered walk-on but I decided to go to Hawai'i instead."

Prather headed to Cal Poly and Kiel to Hawaii, both as walk-ons

Quarterback Harlan Prather and receiver Matty Kiel -- Cabrillo College's two biggest offensive stars -- were dead-set on where they wanted to continue their college football careers. Now the road to making the team begins for each as a walk-on.

Prather will attend at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo in the fall, and Kiel, who turned down a scholarship to the University of Nevada-Reno, will walk-on the University of Hawaii.

"Nevada had a great campus, a great football environment," Kiel said. "But I never liked Reno. If I'm going to be in a place for three years, why not shoot for the stars and go to the greatest place to vacation?"

Nationally ranked Hawaii also runs a pass-friendly, spread-attack offense, which the program plans to continue despite a coaching change during the heart of recruiting season.

Kiel has good hands, leaping ability and balance in the air, said Seahawks coach Bill Garrison. The receiver finished his two-year career at Cabrillo with 66 receptions for 1,263 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Much of those totals came from Prather. He passed for 2,159 yards and 27 touchdowns in a season-and-a-half as Cabrillo's starter. He threw for six touchdowns, including four to Kiel, in the tandem's final game, a win over Mendocino in the Capital Shrine Bowl.

Both were first-team all-Coast Conference picks this season. Prather and Kiel also shined together at San Lorenzo Valley High.

They were named co-MVPs of the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League as seniors in 2005.

Kiel took an unofficial visit to Hawaii last month with Seahawks assistant Bassel Faltas, who was attending a football clinic on the big island.

Kiel spoke with coaches from both the football and men's volleyball teams on his trip. Kiel was the SCCAL MVP in boys volleyball as a senior at SLV.

He said he hopes to also play volleyball for the Warriors, but emphasized that playing football is his top priority.

"I'm going to redshirt a year and have a year under my belt," Kiel said. "I'm going to train hard and get faster, stronger and bigger."

Newly named Hawaii football head coach Greg McMackin, promoted from within the program after June Jones took the top spot at Southern Methodist, told Kiel he plans to stick with the Warriors' high octane offense. Last year, that offense produced a Heisman Trophy candidate in senior Colt Brennan and garnered the Warriors national attention.

Hawaii was second in the nation in passing offense [439 yards per game] and third in total offense [512 ypg] in 2007, when it went 12-1 overall, 8-0 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Hawaii loses its top four receivers from 2007, including juniors Ryan Grice-Mullen and Davone Bess, who have opted to skip their senior seasons to enter the NFL draft.

Hawaii signed six receivers to scholarships on Feb. 6, the first day to sign national letters of intent. Five of the players -- Craig Bell, Dustin Blount, Ryan Henry, Jovonte Taylor and Mike Tinoco -- are junior college transfers. The sixth receiver, Earvin Sione, played quarterback last season.

"I've watched their highlights on the Web site," Kiel said. "I have confidence I can go out and start just as well as these guys."

Prather went with his first instinct in picking Cal Poly, a college he'd liked since high school.

"They were the first school to call me," Prather said.

He also drew interest as a punter from San Jose State, where older brother Waylon recently finished his four-year punting career.

Prather took an official visit to Cal Poly last month and loved his visit.

"If I don't redshirt this year, I'll probably punt," said Prather, who is ecstatic that the school has a major in construction management. "This is definitely a big relief to have this all set."

Cal Poly went 7-4 last season to finish No. 24 nationally in The Sports Newtwork's Football Championship Subdivision poll. The Mustangs return starting quarterback Jonathan Dally, a senior next season.

Cal Poly runs a spread option attack very similar to the one Cabrillo used.

"In the offseason, I'm working on getting my entire body stronger," Prather said. "I want to have the ability to take some punishment because their quarterbacks run a lot."

Garrison said he has no doubt Prather will contend for the quarterback spot.

"Ever since I've known him, all he's ever done is win and that's a good thing," he said.

Prather also wants to play golf. He's a member of Cabrillo's team and also played at SLV.

Dang, just took a review of the JC guys coming in, unbelievable, 3 of the WRs are faster then all of our current WRs(Excluding Michael Washington) Dustin Blount had some unreal numbers on the field, in one game he had 16 catches for 284 yards :o And both Alexander and Rausch are going to compete immediately. Mack seemed to think that neither will have any issues figuring out the offense. Should be awesome!!!!

Brent will be a resident of Hawaii on friday.

Highlights: Rollinson called Abbott a "force on both sides of the ball." He was Mater Dei's lock-down corner. Abbott, a first team All-Trinity League selection, had 35 lead tackles and 12 assists, eight batted down balls, two interceptions and 22 passes defended. He also was one of the Monarchs' top receivers. He is being recruited by San Diego State, Hawaii and Fresno State.

Kelvin Millhouse was also a DB from Mater Dei. Maybe he can put in a good word for UH with Abbott.

UH is not listed as a school recruiting Abbott on his scout.com profile.
In case anyone was wondering, Abbott will walk-on at UCLA.

Looks like you can move Bryant Moniz to walk on in the Spring 2009 (according to Stephen Tsai)
