QB competition for 2025

Post by BigWave96744 »

Next Year
Sr Caleb Freeman
Soph John-Keawe Sagapolutele
RSFr Micah Alejado
TrFr JJ Nielsen (pending signed LOI)

And according to the 2025 recruiting thread we aren't looking to add any more.

Also Morrison will be gone so no QB coach for now.
Thoughts?

That's a really thin QB room. TC would be in even more of a world of hurt if QB1 and QB2 goes down.

Also got to consider will Micah and/or JSK enter the portal?

Will the MLB draft give JJ a favorable report?

Best case all 3 stays and we have a solid QB stable for years to come.

Micah Alejado, who set several UH passing records for a freshman in his first career start, on Saturday, will enter spring training as the presumptive starter.

Quarterback and co-captain Brayden Schager, whose streak of 33 consecutive starts ended because of a sprained left knee, appears to have exhausted his NCAA eligibility. Schager has accepted an invitation to play in the Jan. 19 Tropical Bowl in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Jarrett Nielsen of Jordan High (Long Beach, Calif.) will sign with UH as a dual-sport athlete. Nielsen will compete at quarterback and as an infielder/outfielder with the UH baseball team. Nielsen is set to graduate this month, then join the baseball ’Bows in January.

UH also is seeking to bring in another quarterback.

Definitely a transfer portal QB....along with possibly a JC transfer PWO QB.

There is only room for one "local" QB. One of them will go. Both will not take 2nd place. It's QB1 or TP.

Everyone is excited about MA12, and this will flow into Spring and Fall. That's great. Could UH end up with nothing? Not hard to "steal" proven good players from UH.

JKS leaves, because not QB1. MA12 lights it up. Bigger name schools will find him. Hawaii is not exactly his home.

With JSK now entering the portal, probably also a 2nd transfer portal QB....OR possibly a JC transfer QB.

Nevada had 6 QBs on their roster. I won't be surprised if one of them with no experience transfer here

UH never had a QB2 for the last 4 years (putting aside the discussion on MA12 from last week). The drop off was that great.

UH may face the same situation again. There is no question on who will start next year, even without the spring or fall practices. Why would anyone want to come here? Everyone is a competitor and want that chance to be QB1. Few would want to aim for QB2 or QB3 for the next 4 years. If they do, they may not be that good. And this QB gap continues.

Crazy when looking back....but BS13 was QB2 (with Joey Yellen as QB1 as Shoemaker's QB signee) for the 1st half of the 2022 season

I think they give up on Joey Yellen too early, or Chang and Co. just panic. Yellen played like 2 games (?) and went MIA. Even TV cameras did not catch him. Then again, could be attitude. If he was not QB1, then F-it.

Same with JKS, we may never know how good he is. Some guys just need to shake off the nervousness. JKS did not look that way, so who's fault was that? Coaches. JKS should have played more so he can be a legit QB2. Take nothing away from MA12. JKS should have been better more prepared being a redshirt. Or we can say, MA12 last played football a year ago in HS. JKS last played football 2 years ago. Who is more away from in-game playing?

I would not be surprised if we have 2-3 new QBʻs on the roster next year.
