We loss 16-13 with a minute left in the game and the sky is falling. Schager gives us the best chance of having a winning season and making a bowl game. Some fans don't get.Palolo_2LA wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 9:41 am We all know what #13 brings, and he's not going to improve, so why not give John his opportunity? In many ways he's responsible for the loss.
If #16 or # 12 can't make better plays then what we've seen from #13, TC needs to reassess his evaluation of QB talent. Ironically, #13 is similar to TC, who was wildly inaccurate.
Here are common mistakes/misques by #13;
- 3 delay of games for a Sr QB!!!!! (Unacceptable as a Senior QB with so much experience)
- Bad awareness - got leveled bc he's standing up tall as he's leaving the pocket (again shouldn't happen to a guy with 4 yrs of experience)
- Interception bc he's forcing the ball (in one series in the first half he threw to Pofele 5 x. Are you kidding me?)
- At times seems to be going through the motions - in the read option, hands ball off as RB is getting hit
-overthrows
- rocket balls
- underthrows
- terrible pocket presence at times

Re: NEXT QB - Shager Was Exposed
- 3 senior receivers, 2 games and 3 catches.
- 1 senior receiver, starter, 2 games and 0 catches
- UCLA, bigger, faster. more talented DBs, shut down 3/4s of the receivers in the 2nd half, man coverage
- 3/4s of the receivers had no separation in the second half
- receivers, with the exception of Ashlock, are not open and no separation
- tight DB coverage, smaller passing windows, very difficult throws
- because of tight windows QB had to hold the ball longer, gets pounded after every throw, 5 sacks
- because of no separation and tight passing windows Schager had to throw bullets to try to squeeze his throws in, he had no choice
- poor play calling, run, run 3rd and long with D playing man coverage with more talented DBs
- no run game, Sims is not the answer, more speed is needed, backs that can catch the ball and create space is needed
- poor game planning offensively
- no half time adjustments
- minimal screens, RB passes, poor play calling to counter 3 rush + blitz, drop eight into coverage, man press
= game loss
yeah, it's all on Schager, LOL. And you think the backups who have no experience would do better. Odds are they would force the ball, you would have had more interceptions and the game would have been a lot worse then 16-13

Re: NEXT QB - Shager Was Exposed
TC and the offensive coaching staff really need to re-think their game planning, to include possible half time adjustments when something is not working. Granted UCLA was much more talented overall, but what TheDuke said I basically agree with all. But Schager still needed to sit out at least one possession to have his ankle more fully looked over by the training staff IMHO. He's lucky that no further damage was done where he could have been lost for the season as that ankle was vulnerable.

the sky is falling.200 yards passing per game is underachievement.sam houston will blow us out with the same old qb1 play.2-2 after 4 games is a failure.

If we use stats, BS13 is one of the best in the MWC.

#1 in Pass Completions, #1 Passing Yards, #1 Passing Touchdowns, #1 in Total Yards. And NOT #1 in interceptions - Ok, #2.
Sounds like Tim Chang 2.0, no?
Team W-L sure does not look like anything close to the glory days. Worst than Todd Graham.

My above quote was for last year's stats 2023. So you can see why there are "whispers" in his ear about the TP. If we just focus on the QB stats, for MWC, he is one of the best. No need to "suffer" by being at UH. Then again, football is a team sports.BigWave96744 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 8:04 pmBut we also played 2 games while most (aside from Nevada & New Mexico) only played 1cabanalane wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 7:02 pmIf we use stats, BS13 is one of the best in the MWC.

To me stats means nothing if you sputter in the redzone and can't put points on the board

Re: NEXT QB - Shager Was Exposed
That's the right attitude in Team. But for I, that perhaps will get you "a-look" at the next level.
Wining the WAC used to be a goal. Getting to the Holiday Bowl used to something only for BYU. Forget Sugar Bowl. It wasn't all that long when getting to Hawaii Bowl was expected - kind of not excited.
Now, getting 5-6 wins "would be wonderful." And a realistic goal. So maybe got to look out for I.

Re: NEXT QB - Shager Was Exposed
I like Schager but I don’t like watching him play injured. Especially when we have according to Coach Dan 4 quarterbacks who can play. I remember when players went out with an injury came back in then ended up out for the season. I still get nightmares seeing Shaun Schroeder getting pummled in the pocket. It was brutal. I think resting Brayden now at practice and having John take 1st team reps is a good thing. I still think that Brayden is number 1 but if another quarterback can beat him it will be even better for the team. It’s just that I haven’t seen it yet. I hope to see John get some reps in the next game. He was one of the players I was really excited about when we recruited him.

Re: NEXT QB - Shager Was Exposed
I hope to see better play calling in the next game. When I say 1st down run and it happens I ask myself why? Isn’t this supposed to be a passing offense? I swear I I saw our shovel pass go some good yardage and then it just disappeared. Does Schager have the go ahead to call audibles? When they bring the house it seems like he has no where to throw it. Sometimes I wish that he would throw it away rather than taking the sack.

when they bring the house, the qb has options.dump a pass off,run the ball, throw the ball out of bounds to avoid a sack.schager chooses to hold on to the ball and take a sack.RedZone wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 1:13 pm I hope to see better play calling in the next game.
