I think this was the first time that a state softball championship game featured two freshmen as opposing starting pitchers. The Warriors' pitcher, Peahi Grilho-Armitage, simply didn't get the job done. What surprised me is that she was voted top pitcher of the tournament over the Trojans' pitcher, Hinano Bautista. Let's let it all hang-out: The Trojans made the Warriors look like s__t, and they did it on statewide TV. I think it's safe to assume that the Warriors are none too happy about it. The Warriors' big sticks had their chance, but simply didn't get the job done. They lose most of those big sticks to graduation. Grilho-Armitage will probably return next year as the Warriors' ace, but she won't have as much run-support as she did this year. Of course, she had virtually zero run-support this past Friday. The Trojans also lose most of their big sticks to graduation. If both schools should make the D1 state tourney again next year, and they happen to play each other, I'm sure the Warriors will feel that they have some unfinished business. I'm thinking of the movie, "Kill Bill: Volume 2", which was a blockbuster some 20 years ago. Near the end of the movie, Uma Thurman and David Carradine are seated across each other at a table, each having a massive chip on his/her shoulder against the other. Just before they went at each other, Thurman told Carradine, "you and I have unfinished business", after which they went at each other. Thurman eventually kicked Carradine's butt with the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique. I doubt that any of the Warrior girls next year would have even heard of that movie, but I'm sure they'd feel that they have some unfinished business against the Trojans. They'd have an opportunity to be Uma Thurman, against the Trojans as David Carradine.

Sorry about hijacking this football thread for softball and other sports; appreciate your patience. I'd like to thank University Ave for not getting on the thread and complaining about it.

It's all good! Good convo is always welcomed anywhere.

HighSchoolFootballAmerica has released their preseason Top 300 football teams in the USA.
Kahuku comes in at No. 30.
Mililani at No. 50.
Punahou at No. 255

Based on reports I see on recruiting websites, HSFA might be overlooking St. Louis a little. The Crusaders, and Campbell as well, have enough talent to wind up in the Top 300 by season’s end.

Just for fun, here are the ranks for some of the mainland schools who will play Hawaii schools this fall.

No.1 Mater Dei
No.2 Bishop Gorman
No.27 Sierra Canyon
No.33 Mission Viejo
No.131 Los Alamitos
No.132 Liberty

Two high school football teams from Hawaii were featured in the MaxPreps preseason Top 100 released Monday.

Three-time defending state champion Kahuku checked in at No. 30, while 2023 OIA champion and HHSAA runner-up Mililani is ranked 84th.

Found this: https://twitter.com/PunahouFootball/status/1807506905323217102 I can’t believe our top varsity team is playing Iolani. That hasn’t happened since Obama was prez.
Punahou Football: 12-1, 2008 ILH and State Champions! 11-0, 2013 ILH and State Champions, a team for the ages!

@gopunahou: The Raiders were stupid to accept. They're going to get murdered. Iolani alumni must be ticked.

As of Thursday evening,OC16 does not seem to have released their schedule at all for the first two weeks. I would say that next weeks Saturday matchup with Kahuku vs. St. Louis would seem to be a no brainer, but OC16 does seem to be cutting it close on a partial schedule release with a week left before the season begins.Maybe they’re waiting ‘til Monday.

On the radio side, 760 AM has released the first few games they will broadcast:

August 9 PAC-5 @Waialua 7P
August 16 McKinley @Kaiser 7P
August 23 McKinley vs. PAC-5 @ Farrington 4P
August 23 Rancho Mirage @Farrington 7P
September 6 Waianae @Pearl City 7P

Was able to see the scrimmage between Big Red and Damien last nite.
imho, i ain't gonna lie, gonna take ALot of work to get that 4th trophy.
what stood out more than anything was the lack of numbers....maybe due to academics, we know several kids transferred out, hoping to see if any kids are coming back or coming in...but the numbers look low compared to prior years.
the seconds however, look promising, it was nice to see them get extended reps last night.
Good luck to the Boys!! RRFL

@rrforlifebaby: Surprised that Damien would scrimmage Kahuku. That's like a JV team scrimmaging a vars team. Severe size/talent mismatch.
