There's plenty of depth at WR. Perhaps he knew his playing time would be limited?

He was #84 last season. There is no #84 on the Spring Roster, so his number may be reserved. He was very inconsistent; would make difficult catches then whiff on easy catches. That reduced his playing time.
Players redshirting are usually on the roster, blueshirts/Grey aren't, so might be another situation.

Good to see him back. He's one of the fastest WRS on the team. He just needs to learn to track the long ball better and catch them.
