During Rocky Savaiigaea’s five football seasons as a University of Hawaii defensive tackle, all 14 prospects he hosted on recruiting visits eventually signed with the Rainbow Warriors.
Fifteen years after playing his last college game, Savaiigaea’s total is up to 15.
Farrington High linebacker Zaden Mariteragi, Savaiigaea’s son, accepted a 2025 scholarship offer from the Warriors.
Mariteragi, who is 6 feet 3 and 220 pounds, transferred from Kahuku High ahead of the recently completed spring semester. Mariteragi was in the Red Raiders’ defensive rotation last season.
“He’s special,” Farrington coach Michael Lafaele said. “He’s got really good length for a linebacker/edge. I think Rocky did a really good job raising him. He’s a high-caliber kid. He has really good family values. Physically, he’s gifted. He has really good pass-rushing skills. He can set the edge for us on the run. He can do a bunch of different things. He’ll be one of those guys who really turns heads this year.”
Mariteragi’s parents accompanied him on the recruiting visit this past weekend. Savaiigaea marveled at UH’s improvements in facilities, nutrition and networking. “These kids are set up to know they have a life after football,” Savaiigaea said. “Our vision going into the official visit was different than when we finished it. We were impressed.”

Rocky Savaiigaea's observations and comments about the OV are very interesting. His interview is during the first 13 minutes of the show.

Nice to keep the local boys home.

- Honolulu (Hawaii) Farrington athlete Zaden Mariteragi is another player with the versatility to play multiple spots. He's a Hawaii commit and told us before the camp he was recruited to play inside linebacker.
He worked out with the edge rushers and has a nice tool kit as a pass rusher. He had one of the quicker get-offs in the camp, can dip, bend and get the edge. He has a projectable 6-3, 230 pound frame and depending on where his body goes in a few years, we could see him growing in to a full time rush end.

Honolulu (Hawaii) Farrington edge rusher Zaden Mariteragi committed to Hawaii in June after the Warriors hosted him for an official visit.
Mariteragi cited the culture that Warrior Head Coach Timmy Chang, himself a Hawaii alum, has built as he enters his third year as the coach at his alma mater.
"The culture at UH, the bond that the boys have, its unlike anywhere else," said Mariteragi.
The opportunity to play in his backyard was also key.
"The chance to play for the home team, my family can come watch me and that's something special," said Mariteragi. "What Coach Timmy and Coach CB (Chris Brown) have going over there, I felt it. And I felt it was the place for me."
Mariteragi said that the Warrior coaches made him feel like a priority, and the relationship was key.
"When I talk with them, it isn't about NIL, it's about getting to know them as coaches, them getting to know me as a person and a player and getting to know my family and developing a good relationship," said Mariteragi.
While the Warriors are bringing Mariteragi in to play linebacker, specifically middle linebacker, he said he wouldn't be surprised if edge became part of his future at some point.
"Coach CB was my primary recruiter, and they like me as a middle linebacker, but I'm adaptable," said Mariteragi. "I always like trying new things and if I have a new main position, I'l do what I have to do to help the team."
The 6-3, 225-pounder said he's working to graduate in December and enroll in January.
