You can watch the original 5-0 tv series on the freevee channel now. I'm on season six now. They used the same known local actors who appeared in many episodes in bit parts. Lippy "Hella on bruddah" Espina, Lucky "Sweetbread" Luck, Checkers of Checkers & Pogo, Professor Fun, and Carole Kai appeared in a lot of episodes. The show also cast local newscasters besides Al Michaels. Tim Tindall, Bob Sevey, Bob Jones, and Bob Basso. Bob Basso had a big part in one episode where he played it over the top as an organized crime head.Waryor wrote: Tue Sep 07, 2010 4:53 am spike tv has repeats of the old 5-0 tv show. i watched a couple of episodes. one episode had ricardo montalban (you know, mr rourke on fantasy island and khan in star trek 2) playing a japanese business man. it was somewhat insulting and totally hilarious. the funny part being one of the worst japanese accents i ever heard (you know, he has such a unique voice).
anyway, at least the original chin ho and kono were local actors.
while the new 5-0 has asian actors playing asian characters, they're not local.

@Walkoff Balk:
For Boomers like me, the original Five-0 series ('68-'80) can't be beat. That was a better Hawaii back then. All new series are imposters; they can never replicate the Hawaii we remember from '68 to '80.

Also nevermind Iron Chef, I can't be the only one that saw Only the Strong, or Double Dragon. He was also The Crow in the short lived TV series.

Joe Moore called sportscaster Lex Keiter, The General. Lex Keiter played a General on the tv series.

I've been binge watching the original Hawaii Five O series. So, you can spock and chuckle when they use the same local actors and same scenes on the show. There was one scene where they're rushing to a crime scene and there's the same people waiting at the crosswalk used over and over.unpaid wrote: Tue Sep 07, 2010 7:09 pm It seems to me that there was a scene in the first season of a body falling down the side of a tall aparment building,that was used over and over again anytime during the entire run of the original when they needed a body falling off of a building. Ten years and that body never hit the ground...Heh,Heh!

I don't understand that when a criminal is surrounded by Five-O. He decides to try to shoot his way out to escape. Why not just give up and face a lenient Hawaii court?

I guess talent was thin back then. Al Harrington played the bad guy and then was a cop on Five-O. I think a few others had multiple roles.Walkoff Balk wrote: Wed Feb 21, 2024 10:56 pm

Newscasters Joe Moore and Tim Tindall made cameo appearances in the opening scenes where they got killed. Tim Tindall was a military man who was walking down the street and then went into an elevator and was killed. Joe Moore was a scuba diver who just got out of the ocean and then was shot. Joe Moore later got more screen time where he played the partner of a small plane business with John Ritter(Before Jack Tripper). Rap Replinger played an employee of the business.

I kind of like NCIS. Hollywood in Hawai'i. This reminds me of the good old days of the 1970s Hawai'i Five 0 years. But now it's better. NCIS is a good show. I remember when this show was just in the making. I saw them around Diamond Head Kapiolani park and college area all the time. Any time of the day. Two thumbs up on this show. "A brah, hui chicks, be careful." Just some movie I picked it up from in 1987.
Al Harrington died already. But the old Hawai'i Five 0 series was remembered. I remember seeing many scenes in Hawai'i. The most famous scene was at the Ilikai Hotel over at Ala Moana Blvd. going into Waikiki. Looking to your right. Hawai'i Five 0 was just one of those shows Hollywood hit it big on. Hawai'i fans loved it. I remember a show they catching a sniper over at Diamond head. And the cops had to catch a sniper hiding out under a cement made cave in Diamond head. He was shooting at people in Diamond head area. 1970s show. I forgot the episode name but they have it all on you tube.

They were actors in the movie. Called on again. Or just scenes cut and then made to fit the film. Just movie stuffs. They are always looking for actors. The auditions are placed on the Honolulu Star-Advertiser newspapers all the time. And local magazines.cabanalane wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2024 4:40 pmI guess talent was thin back then. Che Fong was the original CSI guy. He helped McGarrett a lot in solving crimes. They used those room sized computers back in the 70's.

Large mainframe. They didn't have desktop in the 1970s. First one created was by 1975, Apple computer. Steve Wosniak. Not available yet to the greater public. Same language used. C++ was invented in 1979. It was used at UH. Both languages were taught there. and UNIX operating system. On the mainframe computers.Walkoff Balk wrote: Mon Apr 22, 2024 7:41 pmChe Fong was the original CSI guy. He helped McGarrett a lot in solving crimes. I picked up Java at UH learning at UH years later. I took a class. NIght school. 1998. I went back to school. 2016 full on studying Java. I like it because I can do so much with it. Available to the greater public and free use. Free use. 1998-1977. 21 years after high school. Again at UH. Whoa... I was part of the the CS dept. there. I got a certificate in Java. Not bad. But not an expert yet.

I finally finished watching the entire series. Towards the end, you could tell they used a stunt double for Jack Lord. In one episode, there was a stunt double chasing after the bad guy who I thought was a different cop until McGarrett caught him with a closeup. And the final episode where McGarrett and Wo Fat had a physical fight with stunt doubles.

I have the DVD box set too. I still stand by the feelings when I watched it for the first time. Correct me if I'm wrong or you feel differently. I didn't think bring Wo Fat back for the conclusion was a good story ending. It made sense, and I get it. But IMO, we, the fans, have grown to see Steve McGarrett as a person. Like they are real people. It's a cop show, but I would have like to see the last episode more of a personal story of his retirement from Five-O.
