It was a mistake for Todd Graham to insert BS13 to try to scare Cordeiro. Looking back is 20/20. The drama was already brewing.
"Try to scare Cordeiro"???? BS played, started against Fresno cause Cordeiro was hurt. Was he not hurt? So Chevan left not cause he "lost his love for football" but because felt entitled to the starting job and didn't want to compete? Thats what I thought from the get go.

Totally understand Cordeiro's point of view, on that too, it that was a factor. He is the starting QB. Sure, there's "competition, but I can totally understand how he see QB1's job being his. When you don't "feel it" transfer portal. I wish Cole McDonald stay too. Rolo leaving had a part, but I think he could have done very well in his Sr. yet. Or fight against the tide of "local." Every time CMD threw an interception, the fans are thinking it's CC time.

On feeling entitled, I would agree it is BS13's job as QB1 next year. If not, transfer portal for BS13 also.

One more thing since I mentioned Todd Graham. Looking back everything is 20/20. Kai Kaneshiro left UH football under "medical retirement." HIPPA rules that they can't share the details. What he really hurt? Agree, Kai Kaneshiro wasn't that great. IMO, he just did not have the size and strength to take down someone. Kai would get there, and player would then be down 3-4 yards later, when additional help arrive. I can see how Todd Graham would ride his @$$$ where Kai would just "quit."

I don't know what the deal is with medical retirement. But maybe it means he get to keep his scholarship and still get an education.

Your guys remember Junior Lopati? He was the first 7 year player. One knee was bad. The brace broke then cut into the other good knee. Then the first bad knee when bad again. His senior year he had to play with 2 knee brace. Point is, nothing would keep him out of the game, and off the team, with his braddahs.

It's been like that for the past 10 years, no?
Think back at games when fans wanted QB1 benched. Having a solid QB2 who is ready to go at a moments notice is a good thing and hopefully we will get in 2024

Chow
2012 Sean Schroeder QB1, no QB2 competition
2013 Taylor Graham QB1, Sean Schroeder takes over
2014 Taylor Graham QB1, Ikaika Woolsey takes over
2015 Max Whitek QB1, Ikaika Woolsey takes over

Rolo
2016 Ikaika Woolsey QB1, Dru Brown takes over
2017 Dru Brown QB1, Cole McDonald moving up
2018 Dru Bown transfers, Cole McDonald QB1, Chevan Cordeiro moving up
2019 Cole McDonald QB1, Chevan Cordeiro getting hotter

Graham
2020 Cole McDonald turns pro, Chevan Cordeiro QB1, no QB2 competition
2021 Chevan Cordeiro QB1, Brayden Schager moving up

Chang
2022 Chevan Cordeiro transfers, Brayden Schager QB1, Yellen & Cooper get reps
2023 Brayden Schager QB1, no QB2 competition
2024 ????

Time goes by fast. That's 10 years. Let's go back a bit to JJ era. When GOAT 15 throw an interception. No big deal. Even during T-Chang days. Not a big deal. You know, next possession UH will march down the field again (pass by pass). At least for me, I never felt their job was in question, where QB1 would worry about someone warming up on the sidelines.

Actually fans booed TC at Aloha Stadium.

JJ benched TC for Jason Wheildon
"It was one of the few mistakes by Whieldon, who relieved Chang twice and sparked Hawaii's offense with four touchdown passes. He also had an 18-yard rushing TD to make the score 37-21 with 4:03 left, sealing the victory.

Afterward, Jones said Whieldon will start Saturday in the regular-season finale here against Boise State.

"I was going to try to play Timmy (last night), let him battle through. Guys have to be able to battle through their deal," Jones said. "Timmy struggled early. I wanted to get him back in there and battle through, but at that point I decided to go with Jason."

Whieldon finished with 15 completions in 25 passing attempts for 237 yards. He rushed five times for 31 yards.

Chang, who was booed by many in the announced crowd of 37,024 (43,477 tickets distributed), finished with seven completions in 23 attempts for 38 yards.
...
The Warriors woke up with Whieldon replacing Chang following the second Crimson Tide score.

Whieldon, entering the game to cheers
And even Shawn Withy-Allen (2002 @UTEP)
He was maybe trying to do a little too much," Jones said of Chang's 9-for-27 passing for 85 yards. "He'll be better next week.").
In 2000 True Frosh TC overlook Rolo to finish the season. Rolo started the season losing to Portland St.

I think the difference is now the ease and quickness of transferring.

Good points. Didn't know T-Chang got booed. I remember the many interceptions. But I guess I only recall that with the many yards and TDs.

Sometimes, it is a way for the program to reclaim a scholarship without having to cut the player. A mutual agreement between the team and the player.

We better recruit 2 JC or D1 Transfer QBs who can challenge for QB1 and play 2 or 3 years, just saying

When Leonard Lee came back, I kind of hope Kai Kaneshiro would come back too. Medically "healed." Good doctors.

After 2 days there are 91 D1 transfer QBs in the portal, many with previous game day experience, some even starters. Then there are the JC guys with experience.

There is no reason why we cannot land 2-3 quality guys.

I recall that in years past when there was a shortage of quarterbacks on the roster, the program brought in current UH students who were former high school quarterbacks onto the spring roster for spring training. They needed the arms to throw to the receivers. I wonder if that could be a plan for this spring as well.
