I think we had the QBs on the roster to be successful, its just that Chow shoehorned his more prostyle offense in that didn't fit not just the QBs on the roster, but also the other skill players.

Re: Hawaii QB1 &2 (1999-Current)
A little about Dalen Morris from today's StarAdvertiser. Hope he gets to play all the games and doesn't have to do too much Navy stuff during the season.
Countless military veterans, reservists and officer trainees have played college sports. But this is something completely different, competing as a college athlete while on active duty.
There are no rules against it, except for the one requiring human beings to sleep once in a while, and the other preventing them from being in two places at the same time.
You have to be a full-time student to play intercollegiate sports. When you’re on active duty, you technically belong to Uncle Sam 24-7.
Morris is taking a full load of graduate-level classes at UH in pursuit of a master’s degree in public administration. In the Navy, he has shore duty in Wahiawa as a cryptologic warfare officer.

Re: Hawaii QB1 &2 (1999-Current)
No shame to admit that I was a Chow Fun.
1. Chow did not know what HC job was hard, and not every football guy is cut out for it. Got to worry about the soap in the showers. With all his connections, it seems hard for him to bring in his coaches. Would have been better to just press the Easy button answer to keep both the OC and DC. The R&S was already established in Hawaii-UH, just ride it like Mac.
2. I think Chow finally found his guy in Max Wittek. He looked awesome in the beginning. I recall it was in the same game, he got a mean hit, and never looked the same. Max was all USC so that's exactly what Chow wanted. Max lost one year, had to sit out because of transfer rules, so I don't know...if Max could have started in his Junior year, have two playing years, maybe things would be different?
3. The landscape of football changed IMO (or maybe changed long before that). The honeymoon period is 2 years. If not winning, bowl games, etc, fans would call for your firing. (This is what I fear for Timmy Chang.) Chants to fire often start after year 2, and get's loud very fast.
4. Chow's wife. Football is football. I forget exactly now, but his wife suffered a stroke, or some sort of brain issue. He was on an away game and flew to be there. Or the other way, his wife was still living in CA, and flew to the mainland. With something personal as that, football does not really matter in life's big picture.
5. The Ghost of JJ. Some fans still want JJ instead of XXXX (insert name). IMO, I think that boat has sailed too. Most of all, I'm glad JJ is not back with UH, so he can preserve his GOAT status. Nobody will measure up the JJ, and always "suck" with no love given.
Chow is a good man, IMO a good position coach (one of the best), but just wrong time. Or perhaps like everyone else, ages catches up, and the best Chow years were with BYU, USC, UCLA, Tenn, etc.

I no like turn this into one NC thread, but plainly put, NC and FVO were the worst coaches in the history of UH football. Ask any player who played for them. The happiest day of my UH football allegiance came on the day NC was fired. Nothing personal. He was just one of two coaches at UH who can wear the "worst ever" label.

I agree that he was a good man. I only question some of his decisions, like you mentioned above. Letting Rolo and Aranda go and eventually end up using grad assistance was tough to watch.Chow is a good man, IMO a good position coach (one of the best), but just wrong time. Re: Hawaii QB1 &2 (1999-Current)
The inability to land a quality backup QB is clearly showing and could ultimately cause this season to go down really fast if QB1 goes down. Recruiting a backup triple option QB to learn the RNS offense was not what this team needed.
I thought pulling Schager in the 4th qtr to prevent an injury and seeing Farrel, Yellen or Chong was going to happen but oh well. Assuming Sagapolutele will Redshirt.

I don't think Morris is here to learn the RNS. He is just a football player that loves football, being on a team. If his Navy commission was in San Diego, would he try to play for San Diego State? With the permission of his commanders.
Somehow, I wish UH would line up with a wishbone offense with Morris, and...
The defense goes WTF.
And young Sims got to be in the line up. Got to.

Yes props to Morris, but it's sad that he is getting more PT than any other QB on the roster.cabanalane wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 8:09 am I don't think Morris is here to learn the RNS. As for young Sims, he is out for more games due to an injury

Agree with all of BW's point. Scoring that end of game TD avoided the side bolo, but if Schaeger received an injury while still playing in a game decided long ago was crazy. IMHO next man up should have received meaningful reps while under fire in a live game.

Re: Hawaii QB1 &2 (1999-Current)
With current game planning, play calling and game decisions by current coaching staff it doesn't matter who the QB is. And changing offenses during the season is a recipe for disaster. Like last year it would mean that the coaches have no faith in what they preached all of last year, the spring and the fall. It would mean that they have no faith and have given up on themselves and the players. That would not look good from anyone's perspective and players would give up any hope.

Not sure about the GoGos reference. Love the group back then. You talking about they on Vacation? They got the Beat? Or something is going on and their lips are seal?
Farrell has worn the headset so much that he should just plan on coaching after UH, or GA so he can go grad school. I would take him off the QB2 list. I like to see Chong get a chance, as QB2. Chong was recruited my T-Chang. So I felt that Chang "owe" him that. Sort like Rolo recruited Z Choi out of HS, then Rolo came (back) to Hawaii.
Then again, it's hard to be honest sometimes in recruiting. You have to tell them that they are the best they seen, and promise them the world. When they join your team... Many don't like the Transfer Portal. For the players, it's a good thing.

Take the red shirt. It's still going to be BS13's team next year. He is that much ahead of all you guys. After everyone is one the same page, BS13 will hand you an awesome offense. And you will have 3 years of awesomeness.
It was a mistake for Todd Graham to insert BS13 to try to scare Cordeiro. Looking back is 20/20. The drama was already brewing.
