Defensive lineman John Tuitupou has petitioned the NCAA for a waiver that will allow him to return for a fourth UH season. Prior to joining UH in July 2020, Tuitupou’s football clock was put on pause because of a family situation.

Re: Tuitupou petitioning for another year
Not just him, but how would this work for guys who perhaps finish their degree, and don't want to go to grad school?
Also how are they classifying the students with 6 years (COVID period) guys? So they are "Seniors" in their 5th and 6th year? Does that skew the stats where the Senior class looks bigger than it actually is? And then the drop off where maybe half of the guys may "graduate" out of the football program.

Re: Tuitupou petitioning for another year
If you look at the roster on the game notes, there are seniors then some have notations that will indicate super seniors. If you look at the website, two years ago, they listed the super seniors but last year they did not so it seemed like we had a really big senior class.cabanalane wrote: ↑Tue Dec 20, 2022 5:21 am Not just him, but how would this work for guys who perhaps finish their degree, and don't want to go to grad school?

Not sure about guys who graduated but don't want to go to grad school. I always thought that they had to be working towards a degree. They could just amass more credit hours but not graduate until they feel like they are finished with football.

Tuitupou is returning
If true this would be huge for the DL. We need someone just like him with size and experience.

The Warriors are waiting for the NCAA to rule on starting defensive tackle John “JT” Tuitupou’s petition to play this season. Before joining UH in 2020, Tuitupou, a 2016 Kalaheo High graduate, missed two seasons to support his family. With the COVID-19 exemption, Tuitupou’s appeal seeks a fifth year of eligibility.

Re: Tuitupou appeal still pending
Getting Tuitupou back will make a big difference for the interior of the DL. Fortunately he has taken part in spring practice and off-season training, so he should be ready to go if cleared.kapakahi wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 8:25 am https://www.staradvertiser.com/2023/07/ ... fore-camp/By Stephen Tsai

Defensive tackle John Tuitupou is expected to learn this week if he will be granted a waiver to play this season. Tuitupou sat out two seasons because of a family matter ahead of enrolling at UH in 2020. He is allowed to practice while the NCAA reviews his appeal.
