BTW, Meyer previously played at Damien Memorial School before transferring to Mililani HS.

From the Star-Advertiser (By Stephen Tsai)....

https://www.staradvertiser.com/2022/02/ ... m-in-2023/
A well-regarded safety is in the University of Hawaii football team’s future.

Makana Meyer, a Mililani senior, has accepted a 2023 scholarship offer from the Rainbow Warriors.

Meyer said he intends to enroll at UH as a part-time student in the fall, then join the Warriors next January. Although he has played on both sides of the ball, Meyer is projected to compete at safety for the Warriors.

Meyer said he is 6 feet, 185 pounds, and was timed at 4.5 seconds over 40 yards in last year’s Polynesian Bowl combine.

I wonder why he is gray shirting when there are multiple open scholarships? Maybe the team has targeted a sufficient number of portal players to fill in that Meyer is not needed right away?

We have two DB grayshirts from last year that came in this January, Peter Manuma and Matagi Thompson. We're saving a lot of spots for portal and JC transfers. TC may even hold some spots for guys who enter the portal after their spring practices.

In addition, UH has already signed two (2) safeties (JC transfer Cam'ron Bell & Kona Moore from Saint Louis) for this 2022 Signing Class....with TC probably holding at least two (2) spots for immediate impact safety transfers (from the portal and/or JC). TC also probably holding a few spots for new CBs too....in addition to linemen (OT & DL) and outside WRs.
