Late action for three-star WR Maclane Watkins has him waiting for February decision

Burien (Wash.) Kennedy Catholic receiver Maclane Watkins had a strong senior season.

That has prompted some late action for Watkins, who was offered by Hawaii this week.

That goes with earlier offers from San Diego and Portland State among others for the 6-5 pass-catcher.

He will wait until February to sign but the late movement in his recruitment is certainly giving him reason for excitement.

The offer from the Warriors caught his attention, and he has some ties there- his sister, Avery, is a freshman basketball player at Hawaii.

"I really seem to like the coaching staff, so I could easily go there," said Watkins.

Of course, it doesn't give the Warriors the advantage, with Watkins considering blazing his own path.

But it is still appealing to Watkins.

"Coach (Ian) Shoemaker, the offensive coordinator, was the one who talked to coach (Sheldon) Cross first. Then, coach Shoemaker sent the film to the receivers coach, Jared Ursua and coach (Timmy) Chang and they really liked it," said Watkins.

Watkins is targeting an official visit in January and he's also considering visits to Portland State and San Diego.
