Looking at the results from last years state tournament it looks like Kamehameha Kapalama is returning the most state medals on the boys side with 7. Moanalua has 5 returning, Mililani 4, Stl. 3, Baldwin 3. Kamehameha is alway loaded with talent so they should be considered the favorite this season imo. Haven’t looked at the girls side yet.

Haven’t had a crossover in a few years. We need to have a dual state championship award

Were there any good duals or matchups yesterday at St. Louis?

How did the big teams look? From what I'm hearing, Moanalua is is still probably the favorite to win the OIA, with Kapolei and Mililani not too far behind. I know Campbell was at the duals, but I haven't heard of them having too many studs returning this year. On the ILH side, I'm sure Kamehameha is looking strong with a bunch of state placers returning. I hear Iolani is good in the smaller weights, but missing a lot of big guys. Punahou has a handful of solid guys, and probably fills out their lineup with a couple young guys as well.

At the other site, Leilehua, Kalani, and Pearl City looked to have the biggest numbers, but all look on younger side this year. Not too many exciting matchups there. Returning state placers Steinar Tanaka and Logan Lau were both sitting out this tournament. Xander Erolin (Pac5) looked solid against lesser competition. The best matchup on paper was between Keegan Goeas (Castle) and Jace Kim-Cadiz (PC), but Goeas ended up pinning him.

Any insight on the girls side?

I'm looking forward to the first big test at Official's in a few weeks!

Girls didn't have a lot of great matchups. Front runners looked strong still. Not sure if there were any real upsets. Will have to go and look again.

Looks like the ILH pecking order is: 1. Kamehameha 2. St. Louis 3. Punahou 4. Iolani . But, Kamehameha and St. Louis might be pretty close to each other.

St. Louis and Kapolei had a close dual with St. Louis coming out on top 41-37 . Matches were split 7-7. Wish we could get some results, but ILH still refusing to use trackwrestling for easier transparency.

Any other interesting results?

Has Kapolei and Campbell passed Moanalua based on the dual results?

I don't think anyone's passed anyone. Teams were probably trying different line ups and attempting to get kids matches. I'd be surprised if most of the kids remained at the weights they wrestled at. I think the OIA is going to be super close between Moanalua, Kapolei, and Mililani. I think the State tourney will be them, Kamehameha, St. Louis, and Maui Champs at the end. Should be another exciting and interesting season

I think the field at 138 will be loaded. Returning placers: Labuanan(1st), Taam(1st), Amerson(5th)... Others of note: Paaluhi(WAN), Woolsey(KPO)
152: Might have Mercado(1st), Erolin(1st), Goeas(CAS)
195: Kane-Keahi(2nd), Maika Kahele-Akeo(3rd)
285: Dikilato(1st), Coelho(2nd), Lauifi(3rd)
I'm 1000% sure I'm missing a bunch, but any others that spring to mind? I'll look at the girls later.

120: Corpuz (2nd), Seson (3rd), not sure what weights Lau (3rd) or Kusumoto (1st) are going, but could be here too.

Also at 152, not sure if Kailer Lee (4th) is still at that weight, and Jace Kim-Cadiz (6th) is there as well.

I think so far Corpuz has been at 126 this season, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Corpuz drop considering Mililani has two other quality 126 pounders in their stable. Lau hasn't competed I think, so possibly him at 120. Kusumoto is most likely at 113.
Kim-Cadiz will be tough this weekend, but already has a couple losses this year. Boyd Durand had a pretty nice win against him last weekend and should be a player this weekend. Don't think Kailer has competed yet this season, but should be interesting wherever he goes.
Here are my terribly inaccurate finals predictions for the boys: Who knows if these guys are even at these weights lol... undereducated guess at best...
106: Guevara(MIL) v Ramos(KPO)
113: Kusumoto(KSK) v Holokai-Basa(BAL) with Berger(StL) making a run
120: Lau(MPI) v Del Rosario(LAN) but Esperanza(BAL), Marinas(BAL) and Seson(MOA) should be good
126: Somebody(MIL) v Buelow(PUN), Nitahara(KSM) or Kaohu-Wachi(NAN) could be players
132: Labuanan(KSM) v Pasion(MOA)
138: Taam(MOA) v Woolsey(KPO) with Amerson(KSK) and Paaluhi(WAN) with huge potential
145: Porter(WAN) v Paaluhi(KSK) or Cobb-Adams(StL)
152: Mercado(PUN) v Erolin(P5) ... Hasegawa(BAL), Durand(RAD), Kim-Cadiz(PC)
160: Creech(StL) v Waielehua(KSK) ... Lee(IOL)?
170: Pagurayan(KPO) v Lee(MIL) or Shields(KLH)
182: Baekkuland(MOA) v Hussey(LAH) ... honestly no clue
195: Kane-Keahi(LAH) v Kahele-Akeo(KPO)
220: Miguel(BAL) v Abilay(MAU) ... honestly no clue
285: Dikilato(KSK) v Lauifi(WAP)
Teams to watch: Kamehameha, Baldwin, St.Louis, Lahainalua, Moanalua, Mililani, Kapolei

No chance Labuan and Taam end up in the same weight. One of them will run away and keep the 4x dream alive.
