As daunting as Kahuku looks, we've proven we can stay with them and are capable of beating them. No matter what ignorant hypocrites like OldManJenkins say.

Yes, Mililani lost by four touchdowns but did play better than I thought they would, especially with Tarape. Something must've changed with him between the OIA championship and tonight's game. Tarape looked shell-shocked against Kahuku but didn't flinch tonight.
Mmmhmmm. Good luck next week. If Big Red starts off slowly on O, could be a wasted season.

If it makes Mililani feel better, they played Mater Dei much closer than the 24th-ranked team in the country--Los Alamitos--did.

One thing that'll help Punahou is that Jaron can give JK tips about Kahuku's defense, being that Jaron just played them tonight.

I said this about the first Punahou-Kahuku game, and I'll say it again: the team that commits the fewest mistakes will win.

Kahuku-Punahou 2.0 shapes up as another one-score game like their first match earlier in the season.

My impression of Punahou is that they performed better overall offense and defense.Williams had a monster rushing night, the short to intermediate air game was clicking, and the defense, except for the third quarter, was keeping Mililani under control.

Kahuku did not seem to be their usual selves on offense. Terrible on third down.Defense was nails and won them the game with those three pick-sixes.

They lost 35-10. Does not surprise me one bit. Waipahu is for real.

For sure, Kahuku defense is the best. It takes the offense time to get going, but the first 10 points were from the offense. Campbell played stuff the runner and that was working. As far as offensive plays, when you get 3 pick 6, the offense stays on the bench. As a result, Campbell had 23 more snaps then Kahuku. Campbells lone td came after the second string QB lost the ball at the 2 yard line. But that's cool, as Coach Carvalho let the subs enjoy State action with a 32 pt lead. Good luck to all participants.

He is. I'm the one who made the mistake.

Interesting that the Open championship game is on the same night as what might be one of the biggest HS FB games in recent memory—Mater Dei vs. St. John Bosco in a 1 vs. 2 matchup. I’d love for Mater Dei and Punahou to both win but I’ll take a split either way. I need a double whammy as much as I need a kidney stone.

It's also interesting that the Open final is on Friday, and the D1 and D2 finals are on Saturday. I guess they couldn't fit all 3 games on the same day, but I wonder how attendance will be for Saturday's games. Especially since 3 out of the 4 teams playing on Saturday are from the neighbor islands, Waipahu is the lone Oahu team.

The only explanation I’ve got for that is that the lesser games are on Saturday because the HHSAA does not wish to have the Open game overshadow UH’s road game. Since Thanksgiving weekend is coming up, I wonder why they couldn’t do a triple header, with the Open title game serving as the nightcap.

One thing that makes me feel good about the Open title game is that a couple of trends favor Punahou. A team with two losses or more hasn’t won a high-level state championship since 2007 Leilehua. Also, this’ll be the fourth championship game matchup between Punahou and Kahuku. There was also one team that entered with two losses or more with the other having lost only once or entering undefeated. The team with one loss or less always won. This time, Punahou is the team that enters with only loss while Kahuku enters having lost twice.

Of course, 1985 Pac-Five is the last team to beat a team in a high-level championship game/Prep Bowl that defeated it earlier in the same season.
