New Aloha Stadium & TC Ching Expansion
Re: New Stadium
There is plenty of parking available at Kapiolani Community College which is a 20 minute walk to Manoa. We used to bus people from there to Pearl City when the house rocked. Let's make it rock again, but from a more commuter friendly location. All athletes live in town. All athletes families stay near town. The MWC is lucky to have Hawaii.
Re: New Stadium
Sadly, our illustrious State government has no commitment to UH athletics.

Re: New Stadium
could a new governor expedite construction? Especially if the governor elect got ties to UH....or even better, a former UH athlete. Can? One can only imagine eh?
I'm going to take a phrase from RJ Hollis.....AT THE END OF THE DAY, ...............we still got mighty serious stadium issues.

Re: New Stadium
There does seem to be a timeline for replacing Aloha with a new stadium and a entertainment district on the present Aloha site. I checked the Stadiumdb.com website which follows and updates happenings around stadium facilities across the country.
The last update to the Aloha facility was made in early May about four weeks ago. Three companies have submitted bids to the state to build a new stadium with a mixed use neighborhood around the stadium. The website says the state will decide which of the three companies will be awarded the contract sometime in the fall 2022. Ground breaking would follow sometime next year in 2023 which would jibe with Wakai’s announcement that the development would commence next year. FWIW.

Actually, worse than a clown show. At least with a clown show you get entertained.

Re: New Stadium
The State still needs to evaluate & rank the 3 private developer proposals in response to the RFP (Request For Proposal) to select the winning proposal then enter into a development agreement contract (which would then stipulate specific completion milestone requirements).
Thus far the project schedule delay has been completely self-inflicted by the State (in coordination with their mainland planning consultants). The State hasn’t even reached the point where the corresponding construction permits (for demolition & removal of the existing stadium & ancillary structures; and for site redevelopment & new construction work) have yet to be formally reviewed & approved by the City (including the City Council)….which means that supply chain issues & project cost escalation (which has continually plagued the City’s Rail project) have yet to be cause of any further project completion delays thus far.

Re: New Stadium
i just hate when unrealistic completion dates are fed to the public.aiea bay state park across the street from the stadium closed its gates pre- covid when the restroom was vandalized.this taxpayer park is still closed today.our government needs to start treating the people of hawai’i with respect.kapakahi wrote: ↑Wed Jul 06, 2022 5:02 pmThe State still needs to evaluate & rank the 3 private developer proposals in response to the RFP (Request For Proposal) to select the winning proposal then enter into a development agreement contract (which would then stipulate specific completion milestone requirements).

Re: New Stadium
While the original completion dates were definitely ambitious & clearly optimistic, they were actually not unrealistic…if not for the State’s own self-inflicted delays. See below.

Re: New Stadium
My guess is that it will be 7-8 years from now to when the stadium opens. This time frame could land us in the FCS.
However, we should not give up because there will be an effort to return to the FBS if we get demoted.

Re: New Stadium
they are unrealistic.states self-inflicted delays are automatic.they need to start calculating their incompetence and delays into the equation and give the people realistic information.kapakahi wrote: ↑Wed Jul 06, 2022 5:46 pmWhile the original completion dates were definitely ambitious & clearly optimistic, they were actually not unrealistic…if not for the State’s own self-inflicted delays.
