Speaking "Star Trek": Meet the Man Who Made Up the Klingon Language
How to create an alien tongue from scratch.
By Matt Blitz
September 26, 2016
In the 50 years since the original crew of the USS Enterprise set out on its mission, Star Trek has inspired generations of scientists, astronauts,
civil rights leaders, engineers, and presidents. But don't forget linguists. A quarter-century before the Game of Thrones team created a Dothraki
language from scratch, Trek crafted a fully developed tongue for the Klingons. "It's given people a language awareness," says Marc Okrand, the
mind behind the Klingon (as well as Vulcan) language. "You learn more about your own (language) by studying another one. Klingon has been a way
to hook people into thinking about language."

20 Years Later... "Trials and Tribble-ations"
StarTrek.com Staff

"Trials and Tribble-ations," one of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's most-entertaining, most-ambitious and most-popular episodes, aired on
November 4, 1996, or 20 years ago today. The episode, the sixth hour of DS9's fifth season, was created to celebrate Star Trek's 30th
anniversary, employed CGI wizardry to morph together the characters -- and casts -- from Star Trek: The Original Series and DS9. And
so we relished the sight of DS9 characters being yelled at by Kirk during a lineup of his crew and getting in on the action during the
"Trouble with Tribbles" bar fight, and also Dax serving as the eyes and ears of the audience (and standing in for the writers and producers)
as she soaked it all in as she traversed the Enterprise.

Re: Star Trek
Harlan Ellison wrote Star Trek’s greatest episode. He hated it.
The famously cantankerous science-fiction legend died this week.
The story of “City on the Edge of Forever” represents his career in miniature.

Harlan Ellison, the legendary, legendarily irascible speculative fiction writer who died this week at age 84, wrote the greatest
episode of Star Trek ever made. And he hated it.
“The City on the Edge of Forever” aired on April 6, 1967, late in the original series’ first season, and won acclaim for capturing
everything Star Trek could do at its best while suggesting weighty themes and emotional depths only hinted at in previous episodes.
It won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation and the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Episodic Drama on Television.
Ellison accepted both. Neither salved his bitterness that the episode had been rewritten.

Re: Star Trek
Having read in one of the Star Trek autobiographies (I forget whose), I wondered what Ellison's version of the story was. Nice read.

Re: Star Trek
Just wait about 6 months afterwards and buy the DVD set. Saves you money and probably a few hassles with them trying to get you to stay with the streaming service.
That's what I did with the 1st season of Picard.

Re: Star Trek
William Shatner was just on Real Time with Bill Maher last week. He held his own with Bill Maher with his comic skills. He looked good and was alert for a person in his 90's. They joked around about a man for his age comments.
