Re: Official Dec 2020 LOI Day ‐ Preview

I believe if the commits stay firm we've recruited more 3 star recruits then ever in one recruiting class.
I think we will hold back on some schoolies for a flooded transfer portal.

We'll hold back on scholarships until we know which seniors are going and which are wanting that extra year. We can afford only so much extra scholarships over the 85.

Re: LB Tyriek Bell commits

Post by BigWave96744 »

Tyriek Bell has signed with Marshall
10:57 a.m.: Tyriek Bell, 6-3, 220, LB, Blythewood, S.C.

Bell is the biggest under-the-radar prospect for the Herd in the signing class. Bell enlisted in the Marine Corps after high school and served in three different infantry battalions over the next four years, in addition to a deployment in China and Korea. Following his military career, Bell went to Saddleback College to play and he had 79 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks while there. Bell was formerly committed to Hawaii, but signed with the Herd over offers from Kansas State, Arizona and Liberty. Recruited by Jordon Hankins.

That's too bad. Always could use a good LB

Graham's recruiting class

Post by bigislandkurt »

I like what a I see. Given TG's lineage, I trust we will see signees from the fertile football grounds of Texas and Louisiana. I'm sure we still got strong connections in Cali too. Not too many local signings thus far, but given that we had no high school sports this fall, I wonder how that is working out for local recruits? I'm not one to strike the local/non-local argument. I trust the coaches to bring in recruits that will help us win. Winning cures (mostly) all. Any thoughts on the recruiting class so far?

Small but good. Could use a couple of D linemen and maybe a CB. Wondering when the QB from Texas is going to sign.

Highland Park three-star quarterback Brayden Schager said he remains committed to Hawaii, but isn’t ready to sign. Highland Park is 9-0 going into Thursday’s area-round playoff game against Frisco Independence, and Schager has made a name for himself by throwing for 2,477 yards and accounting for 29 touchdowns (20 passing) in his first season as the Scots’ starter. “I am going to be signing after the season,” Schager said in a direct message on Twitter. “I need to focus on the playoffs and get out and visit.”

Lancaster three-star running back Da’Qualen “DQ” James, who committed to Hawaii in April, announced Wednesday that he is waiting until the spring to sign.
Hmmm.... :-?

Graham has stated from the beginning of this season as well as in recent interviews that depth at DL and safeties is very thin....yet only 1 DE and no (0) safeties signed thus far in this Early Signing Period.

FYI that.....Saddleback College OLB Tyriek Bell (who had verbally committed to UH back in July) ended up signing today with Marshall (in his home state of South Carolina)….. https://twitter.com/HerdFB/status/1339239113896017920 https://twitter.com/StarAdvertiser/status/1285643211378221069 https://247sports.com/player/tyriek-bell-46100586/

I listened to Coach Graham's early signing day interview. *He emphatically said that he has room to have 85 scholarship players on his roster and has to take into consideration of the scholarship players that are electing to retain another year of eligibility.* He said he will have a clearer picture after the bowl game but thinks he has room to sign 7 more players in February. Whereas some schools are allowed to go over the cap next season he said that UH (and I think he said the MWC) has to stick to a budget. What I like about this class are the national position ranking of some of the players-

Açcording to 247-

Josh Bertholotte-114 (OLB)
Jordan Johnson-21 (APB)
Tariq Jones-101 (WDE)
Sonny Semeatu-121 (WDE)
Solomon Turner-93 out of HS (S)

On the clock:

Brayden Schager-50 (QB)
DQ Jones-20 (APB)
Peter Manuma-112 (Athl)

About UH's current class ranking of 125 (247) I wouldn't put much stock into the ranking because it's based on a cummulative score. But when you look at the average player rating of 0.8239 that score would be indicative of a recruiting class ranked at 70's and 80's. Regarding the signing of the TE from Georgia and the CB from McNeese he said his staff did a lot a research on these players and in the instance of the former Georgia TE he received some insight from a coach (DC) that was with him at ASU.

He said recruiting in general was hard because of the restraints of Covid. He feels for the recruit because recruits can't step on campus to visit. He looks forwards to Hawaii's High School football scheduled this spring

He also said that Colby Burton can play safety. He did say that one of our needs is help in the back end and it is a recruiting focus. Colby has experience and speed and could help at safety. Both starting CBs should be returning.
