Re: Coronavirus
Could see this coming a week ago. New York is the epicenter in the US. It is by far the worst state with over 45% of the USA cases with almost 38,000 cases. If New York was a country, it would be the 6th leading country in the world. Next door New Jersey's cases are really starting to take off. California's cases are starting to accelerate too.shrek2 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 12:01 pm US has just become #1 in reported coronavirus cases.

Italy will pass China by tomorrow. The bad thing about Italy is that it already has more than twice as many deaths as China already. Spain is getting really bad too and has passed China in deaths too. Italy and Spain are registering 700+ deaths a day.

Re: Coronavirus
I wonder how many has been healed. You know your graph will continue to go up indefinitely because it doesn't account for the cases that are no longer active. I don't know if it's the lack of testing but the amount of new cases per day doesn't seem too bad so far.

Re: Coronavirus
The graph only counts confirmed cases, not active cases. What we want to see is the new cases drop and the slope of the line to go sidewards. On Wednesday it was reported that 4,658 tests had been completed. I think that's over 1,000 more than from the weekend. So testing and getting results is starting to pick up. But there's still a backlog on results. On HNN last night there was a story on someone that's had been waiting for 9 days for results.Irse wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 12:43 pmI wonder how many has been healed. Re: Coronavirus
Thanks, I was wondering where I could find that kind of info. What's scary is that there are 60,000 test results pending in the US. We'll be over 100,000 cases in the US in a couple of days. Unfortunately no stats on how many test results pending in Hawaii.ubercow wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 3:18 pm found a site with good covid-19 tracking data, including historic data, and number of tests states are doing

Re: Coronavirus
Amid the news stories of greed by hoarders reselling hygiene products and US Senators doing insider trading, there is a noble prince of a man in Drew Brees who donated $5M to help fight the coronavirus in Louisiana. I like him even more now. Watch the interview if you have the time.

Re: Coronavirus
I am going to continue to be an optimist. The new cases are not coming in at an exponential rate.

I've looked at many math-geek videos to understand this monster, and this is the best so far.
I was tempted to put this one on the political thread, but the information doesn't discriminate.
Re: Coronavirus
My very simpleton understanding of exponential is ... 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256
Right now we are seeing something like ... 12, 18, 8, 14 ...
Thousands have been tested. I think we might avoid a catastrophe. The next couple weeks will tell us if this thing gains momentum.
This doesn’t make it easier for the dozens or perhaps hundreds that will likely get this in their lungs. This is some nasty craap if your body fails to reject it.

Re: Coronavirus
Germany has a very low rate of deaths for those stricken with the coronavirus.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/ge ... d=primedhp
Germany has a special place in my heart because I loved the people when I was there and I spent some time in a German hospital because of an injury. They have socialized medicine. The article doesn't really do justice to explaining how culture has an effect on dealing with crisis like the coronavirus.

Maybe it because they start drinking beer at ten years old.shrek2 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 6:53 am Germany has a very low rate of deaths for those stricken with the coronavirus.
