2020 Expectations with Graham
2020 Expectations with Graham
I'm starting this thread for curiosity's sake. We still need more information in terms of staff, but we know who Rolovich's successor is: Todd Graham. Graham is taking over a 10-5 team that won the West Division in 2019. Hawaii, however, will lose 11 starters including Cole McDonald, three key wide receivers, a long time starter in Matautia, and the entire starting defensive line (Williams, Se'ei, Hune, Akoteu).
Here is Graham's resume in year #1 of taking over a head coach:
Rice 7-6 (took over 1-10 team)
Tulsa 10-4 (took over 8-5 team)
Pittsburgh 6-6 (took over 8-5 team)
Arizona State 8-5 (took over 6-7 team)
With player personnel changes, staff changes, potential scheme changes, and the 2020 schedule below in mind: what are expectations for the 2020 season? Do fans expect the team to hit the ground running? Double-digit wins? Qualify for the Hawaii Bowl? A slight rebuild? I'm curious what you all are looking for in year #1 (so I know when it's okay to be mad or not mad )
--------------------------------------
2020 Schedule

@Oregon
New Mexico State

@Air Force
@Fresno State
@San Diego State
@San Jose State
Boise State
Nevada
New Mexico
UNLV

Brutal schedule. I would be happy with a 6-6 and a strong finish.
Not doubting, not hating, not loving, just hoping because I am a fan.

I'll go with 7-6. If only Rolo left, and MCD and Byrd, Ward, Sharsh, etc all stayed, I would aim for almost a near "perfect" season because, sometimes a new voice in the locker room can boost everyone to the next level.
Many of the coaches are gone, and the "starting core" of player is gone too. The team will still be "small."
Now this is going to sound like Chow, if TG can bring in Pac-12 type of players, we are looking at 3-4 years.

Re: 2020 Expectations with Graham
8-9 regular season wins and a Hawaii Bowl win
Toughest OOC will be @Oregon
Toughest Conference will be @Air Force & Boise St
All other games are winnable, especially in conference where there have been so many coaching changes.
Arizona will have no film on us and we could start the season on a high

I am hoping for at least a 2-2 start, but 1-3 looks more like it. If somehow we're able to beat UCLA and go 3-1... we'll win 10 games again this season.

Re: 2020 Expectations with Graham
With the up coming schedule and a change in offense system- Hawaii should win 3-4 games, winning anything more than 5 games in season 1 is a positive step in the right direction.

I expect to be going to a bowl game at the very least.
Re: 2020 Expectations with Graham
Way too early. But if I have to guess, I have us losing at Oregon and Air Force.

I’m a optimistic. Saying both Losses at Oregon
And Air Force I wouldn’t say losses yet . Coach Graham is a Defensive coach though his teams are known for his offenses . With a good Defensive coach and game plan it could be wins in either game .
