cannon vs fireworks for scoring celebrations

Post by st808 »

the cannon used by the u.h. to celebrate scores seems a little loud and scares the crap out of unsuspecting visiting teams. i wonder if it can cause ear injuries to those directly in front of it when it goes off from the loud report or other injury from the shock wave.

the u.h. should think about a switch to using fireworks to celebrate scores. might be safer. definitely much more festive.

I really don't care if it scares the opposing team. It would cost a lot more for the fireworks especially against a lower level team or once our O gets rolling. Fireworks are not necessarily safer. Dangerous to handle and can cause fires.

Since everything is a liability, I'm sure they can add some resonator to the cannon to bring it down a few decibel.

I'm sure there are "quiet" cannons.

Did the cannon go away for a while during Chow's years? Or were we that bad that I just seemed to forget it was there?

LOL. I honestly can’t remember the canon going off during those years.

that is too funny. i know they have to discharge it before storing it so they set it off after the game ends, but, i don't remember if i ever heard it at the end of a chow game.

but, that might be because i rarely saw the end of a chow game.

IMO the war drums are more unique. Find a big Poly guy and give me a scholarship to be the mascot or pay him if a non student.

watched the fireworks display at the rams/dallas preseason game, that began with the star spangled banner sync with rockets red glare, continued with scoring drives and ended at the end of the game.

much more entertaining than setting off a big bang with such a small cannon.

Supply all of the band members, cheerleaders and Rainbow dancers with party poppers. Much cheaper. Won't scare the crap out of visiting teams and their fans. Shouldn't cause hearing loss unless someone pops a party popper right in another person's ear. Or the PA guy can keep a supply of bubble wrap and pop 'em in front of his mike. Show aerial fireworks on the big screen at the same time.
Cats don't have owners. Cats have servants.

I think we should face the cannon towards Arizona. We could use an advantage.
