2019 Hawaii Basketball recruits?

Post by SRJC »

Any news on 2019 Men's basketball recruits? Kind of just waiting for a Woj bomb Hawaii style. I'm still on the Ganot wagon but I'll give him one more year.

Leland Green & Brandon Thomas have decided to transfer so 4 available scholarships.

Sophomore Isiah Small 6-8 180 from Seward county CC has Hawaii as a finalist for his Top 3 per his instagram.

I hope Hawaii gets Justice Sueing from Cal as he decided to transfer. I believe his dad played for Hawaii and justice played at Maryknoll before he transferred to Mater Dei

6-6, G Dimitris Klonaras was here last weekend with his parents. Saw him getting the tour of the facilities Saturday morning. He was at the volleyball game that night.

Wow, looks like a good prospect. I like the fact that his strong side is his left and he has a mid-range jumper as well as a three.

But will he sign? That's the big question.

It's do or die time for Ganot and company. Attendance will be affected by the recruits he brings in.

I like Eran Ganot. For basketball, its hard to recruit talent from the mainland because of all the summer leagues they have on the mainland.

Why did Ng take a preferred walk-on "offer" if he was telling everyone he had D1, D2, and NAIA offers on the table for himself? Seems odd.

Star-Advertiser article says it's a preferred walk-on.

Kameron Ng, the state’s high school player of the year, will be joining the University of Hawaii men’s basketball team.

Ng confirmed his commitment on Twitter this evening.

Ng, a senior guard for Saint Francis School, will be joining as a preferred walk-on.

Ng was named the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s All-State basketball Player of the Year for the 2018-19 season. The selection was based on voting by coaches and media.

Ng averaged more than 24 points per game despite often playing with an ankle ailment. Star-Advertiser reporter Paul Honda noted that Ng missed only three weeks of what was supposed to be a six-week recovery period for the ankle injury. Ng scored 40 points against Mid-Pacific; 27 and 24 points against ILH and state champion Maryknoll, and 29, 25 and 22 against ‘Iolani.

Right. My question is didn't he supposedly have other D1 offers? If so, then why would someone even consider walking-on anywhere if that was the case?

A 5'10 guard playing D-1? Stepteau had problems bringing the ball up against the press but Stepteau was good at running floaters and penetrating when in the half court game.

And Ng isn't 5'10". Probably an inch or two shorter without the floater.

3 more scholarships to fill, and 3 more weeks to go in the signing period. Tick tock.

Yup. Sure is quiet in Men's Basketball. When you consider that all the better players have mostly made their choices a long time ago, what's left?

My guess is grad transfers, transfers, and JUCO and HS players waiting on grades.
