New coach Woody Blevins?
Re: New coach Woody Blevins?
I wonder what his coaching position will be, and who he is replacing.

Re: New coach Woody Blevins?
No assistant coach has left so far.
Numi Lolohea was a GA and is now a GA at Tennessee. Jake Thomas was a GA and is now the OLine coach at Azusa Pacific. His GA position was filled by former intern Vaa Niumatalolo opening up Niumatalolo's intern position. Billy Ray Stutzmann was an intern and is now an assistant coach at Navy. Makana Garrigan was an intern and is now the RB coach at Maine.
So 2 GAs and 2 interns have left. One GA position was filled by a current intern, leaving one GA and three intern positions open. My guess is that Blevins is filling a GA or intern position.

I saw that too and was wondering what position Blevins is filling. But I've heard from a very reliable source less than two weeks ago that no coaches have left. So that's why I think Blevins might be filling a GA or intern position. But now I'm also thinking that he might be filling an administrative position. When Jimmy Morimoto, the director of operations left before the 2018 season, his position was not filled. In addition to his own responsibilities, Jason Cvercko the recruiting coordinator took over Morimoto's responsibilities.BigWave96744 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2019 3:17 pm - he has been removed from the UNC 2019 coaching roster

That's a plausible hypothesis. Forgot about the Morimoto vacancy.uhwarriors wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2019 11:38 amI saw that too and was wondering what position Blevins is filling. I've been corrected. The Morimoto position was filled by Myles Gota, although he has less responsibilities. Cvercko did take on some of Morimoto's responsibilities and was promoted to Chief of Staff.My3Cats wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2019 1:01 pmThat's a plausible hypothesis. Re: New coach Woody Blevins?
Just wondering why one would leave a paid position to be a GA.
Can someone be a GA and work toward a 2nd Masters or even a PhD?
Or does an intern make more money than than an FSC position coach?

Re: New coach Woody Blevins?
Probably the same reason Jeff Reinebold became a GA in 2005, looking to get a foot in the door. Reinebold got a full-time position the next year. Or maybe he is just looking to gain exposure to a higher level of football or the run and shoot and willing to take a step back to do it.BigWave96744 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 24, 2019 11:41 pm Just wondering why one would leave a paid position to be a GA.

Good question about getting another graduate degree. Don't know the answer. Pretty sure an intern position doesn't pay well at UH.

Re: New coach Woody Blevins?
As expected, no changes to the coaching staff. Blevins isn't listed as a GA on the spring roster, although there is one GA opening.

Re: New coach Woody Blevins?
In most cases quality control coaches are analysts scouting opponents and self-scouting their own team. They can also be analysts in the booth during games. Many times they are young aspiring coaches trying to break into the coaching ranks. But other times they are experienced coaches like Kevin Lempa who from being UH's DC to a quality control coach at Michigan. Simplistically, they assist the coaches and cannot coach players. Here's a good article on college football quality control coaches:
