Re: Former Kaiser HS '16 All-State OL Michael Eletise transferring from Arizona
Is this the player that was on the news as a Kaiser sr who had offers by just about every major college?

UH gave up 9 sacks to a C-USA program in the season finale. We're not good enough to turn players like Eletise away. Worst case he's a solid depth add.
Welcome aboard, Michael.

Eletise didn't live up to expectations at Arizona, but glad to have him. We'll have to see how he does here. I won't get my hopes up too high, I remember the UCLA transfer, Fred Ulu-Perry.
No mattah how critical, I support da coach, Rolo. I love what he doing wit Da WARRIORS.

Michael Eletise, a former All-State offensive lineman from Kaiser High and 4-star prospect, is transferring from Arizona to the University of Hawaii football team.
“I’m very excited,” said Eletise, who based his decision partly on having “some family stuff to take care of. And my grandparents are getting older. It’s easier for them to see me play if I’m in Hawaii. I talked to my parents, and they were OK with it.”
Eletise, who played in all 12 games for the Wildcats this past season, recently entered the NCAA transfer portal, a list that notifies schools about players’ availability.
Eletise is 6 feet 3 and 315 pounds.
“I’m just an O-lineman coming back home to play in front of the home crowd,” Eletise said.
As a Kaiser senior in 2016, Eletise was named as ESPN’s ninth-best offensive tackle. Eletise also was selected to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s All-State first team.
Eletise will complete the spring semester at Arizona, then enroll at UH this summer.
He will explore the possibility of applying for a special exemption that will allow him to play in 2019. Transfers between Division I programs usually have to redshirt before playing in games at their next school.

Ulu-Perry was a big boy. Not just in weight, but how it was distributed. I think he could would have been better being 25lbs lighter.

Re: Former Kaiser HS '16 All-State OL Michael Eletise transferring to UH
The realities are most of the highly regarded OL and DL from Hawaii HS rarely become studs when they leave for mainland schools. I could name 40+ of the top of my head.
I played Pop Warner with D Riola and O Kreutz helped out bc his dad was our coach. Those guys made it bc they also had speed. My childhood friend Sione Tafuna played Center @ UH and always says the local lineman lack speed and that's why they don't make it to the NFL.
In my eyes, if your goal is the NFL as a lineman, you can stay at UH and they'll find you. However, if it's better academics, then totally understandable if you go to a premier school. UH academics are on par with most schools, excluding schools like Cal, Stanford, Vanderbilt, USC, UCLA., Michigan. Again, most of the lineman are not academic types anyway. Won't name ppl, but a few of my buddies told me stories about animal behavior classes, where they simply write down there observations of a mouse subject and other "athlete" classes at other universities.

He was overweight. No reason a 20 yr old athlete has a huge belly. Also, he's 6'1 and should have been 40 to 50 lbs lighter. IMO, his weight contributed to his issues. He was tired all the time and was sloppy with technique which lead to injuries.cabanalane wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 5:06 amUlu-Perry was a big boy. Not just in weight, but how it was distributed. This is pretty true. Would Vince Manuwai be a 4-year starter and make it to The League if he had gone to a bigger school? I kind of don't think so. I also think that it helps to play in the R&S because you get a ton of reps (and a ton of film) pass blocking. It baffles me when a school with lesser academics and even lesser of an NFL feeder like Oregon State outrecruits UH because other than being on the mainland and the benefits of being in a major conference, they aren't offering anything better than what you would get by staying home. It will be sweet when we beat them next season.Palolo_2LA wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 6:38 am The realities are most of the highly regarded OL and DL from Hawaii HS rarely become studs when they leave for mainland schools. Made me so sad when he listed "Samoana High School" as his high school in the media guide! No love for his real Alma Mater, Kalani High!Palolo_2LA wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 6:38 am My childhood friend Sione Tafuna played Center @ UH and always says the local lineman lack speed and that's why they don't make it to the NFL.
