No. 72 - Hekoti Fakava

I remember that game against Iowa... Hekoti kept leaving the game with an injury. I remember Paul Johnson (OC) saying after the game... that either he was either injury prone (cuz he kept leaving the game) or he was the toughest player ever (because he kept going back in...)... he was joking...

Fakava was great in the Iowa game. He broke, what, 3 or 4 tackles to score that first TD? Ran right through those guys. Wish we had him now. I remember him trying to calm down Jason Elam right before the FG that put UH up for good. Elam waved him off, visibly nervous, but hit it anyway.

I wonder where Elam will be? Better be near the top. Talk about a fan favorite, that guy.

Agreed. I'm loving The Centurions, it's a fantastic idea and great reading. Its going to be fun to see how it wraps up. So many great ones. Elam, Gabriel, Carter, Sims, the Nogas, Owens, Lelie, Colt. They may need a 10-way tie at first!

Mike Wise is a big-time sports columnist, but a really great laid-back guy despite all his success. I've known him since he was at Campbell playing basketball and worked with his dad, Roger, at the Star-Bulletin.
Mike was a good high school athlete and played a little bball at HPC (now HPU). Then he went to the mainland and got some jobs at smaller papers before the New York Times sports editor noticed the quality of his work. One thing led to another, and Mike landed a job there about 15 years ago. He covered the NBA during Jordan's heyday. Now he's a Washington Post sports columnist. You'll often see him on Jim Rome's show as a guest and he just finished up a week as a panelist on Rome's show.

We are very fortunate Mike agreed to write about Amosa for our project. We've also had some other great guest writers: Rob DeMello, Robert Kekaula and Kalani Simpson, and there will be more.

Very well written story and those little tidbits about Amosa Amosa were most interesting. Mahalo Mike Wise for contributing and in your own way giving back.
