Seeding meeting was a mess. New rules make it OK for division champ & runner-up to meet in semis. Loads of East 1&2/West 1&2 matches un semis. Really gonna mess up seeding for state. Plus a lot of good matchups happening before they should. To name a few:
Girls: Fuamatu (PC) v Bushe (KPO) in quarters
Boys: Asuncion (MOA) v Nagatani (LEI) in semis
Tavares (RAD) v Yamaguchi (KPO) in semis
Yeah the rule that doesn't allow better than a 5th seed for wrestlers that didn't wrestle in divisionals is pretty ridiculous. Oh well, gotta wrestle the matches at some point, might as well be earlier? It's almost that if you are not going to true seed a wrestler that didn't wrestle divisionals, then you should put them at 6 instead of 5.That way it keeps them opposite the 1 and have a more appropriate finals(assuming they both make it there).

Girls: Fuamatu (PC) v Bushe (KPO) will meet in finals if they both make it there. Fuamatu is 5th seed and Bushe is 6th.

You missed the best early match up though. Respicio(CAM) v Kikuyama(PC) in the quarters.

Yes what does true seeding mean?

I have a question that maybe some of you can help me with.

I've been looking at this thread, and Hawaii Sportsworld, and Scoringlive.

Here's my question: Do Iolani, Punahou, Damien and Pac5 have wrestling teams this year?

@twnoexcuses: I'm pretty sure all four have wrestling teams this year. All four had teams last year; if any of them didn't this year, I'm sure it would have made the news.

One of my favorite matches of the night was Cooper vs Leong
Leong pushed cooper to the limit you could tell he was a little frustrated but still got the win 12 8 could be a intriguing match up if they meet in states

For sure a much closer match than I thought it was going to be. Cooper's knee didn't look right to me though. Hopefully this week and a half will give him some time to let it heal up some more.

Congratulations to Leilehua Boys and Moanalua Girls for winning the OIA Team Titles. Both teams ran away from the nearest competitors. What was surprising was how well Moanalua's boys did. I knew they would be competitive but they showed up with 6 in finals and 3 OIA Champs. Both Leilehua and Moanalua boys team will be serious contenders at States. Both teams have potential to place several wrestlers into final along with numerous state placers. For the girls it looks like the battle will be between Lahaina, Baldwin and Moanalua. I heard at the OIA Championship that Moanalua was out 4 starters and still blew away the competition. I don't see them having any individual State champions but a couple in the finals and a lot of state placers.

Yes they all have teams, just no real reporting on non-OIA happenings unless there is amazing happening. Like Estrella's 4-peat in MIL and things of that nature. They all competed in the Official's tournament in December. Punahou placed 5th for boys and 12th for girls, Iolani 13th for boys and 17th for girls, Pac Five 14th for boys and 14th for girls, Damien 25th for boys and 22nd for girls.

Kamehameha I think should win both boys and girls.
Kamehameha with champs for boys at 106, 120, 138, 152, 184, 197, 220 and for girls at 112, 117, 122, 127, 132, 138, 145, 155.
Not too sure on matchups with the girls, most look like mismatches with some tight ones. There should be some pretty good matches for the boys though.
132 Ursua v Nishigaya
138 Terrell, Tapia, Nishigaya
145 Matsumoto v Taam
152 Tapia v Angelo
170 Takenaka v Huddy
220 Brock, Tominico, Matautia
285 Bollig v Kekahuna

So does anyone want to explain why many of the ILH brackets (especially on the girls side) have only 3 competitors yet they get 3 entries into states?

Each league gets number slots calculated by the following formula: (# of teams that have wrestling in league divided by # of teams that have wrestling in state) times number of total slots(16).
I'm not sure on how many teams each league officially have wrestling right now, but OIA has 23 I believe and working the formula backwards it would put the state at approximately 52 teams. That would project:
OIA 23 teams
ILH 10 teams (St. Louis, Kamehameha, Punahou, Iolani, Damien, and Pac-5(which is a combination of the rest of the schools)
BIIF 10 teams
MIL 6
KIF 3
I don't know for sure, but thats my best guess without doing a bunch of research.
