Tsai writes on his blog today (10/27/11):

http://warriorbeat.staradvertiserblogs.com/2011/10/

Steve Christian Sr. said his son, Steve Jr., a UH safety, will undergo hip surgery next month. Steve Christian Jr. is scheduled to earn a bachelor's degree in May, after which he will transfer to a school where he can play as a fifth-year player. The NCAA allows students who have graduated in four years and used a redshirt to play at another school without having to sit out a season.

It's kind of sad to see Christian's career at UH end this way.

Before coming to Hawaii Christian had offers from Nevada, SMU, Villanova, Wyoming (according to Rivals, com).

Rated a 3 star prospect by Rivals.com.

I remember watching him during the spring practices of 2009. He caught my eye. He seemed to play the WR closer to the line scrimmage than the other DB's. The other DB's gave a cushion. He didn't. It seemed. I know Tsai described Christian as a playing a safety, but IIRC back in 2009 Christian was playing DB. I hope I'm thinking of the right player.

One of the stories I heard is (from a faculty type) that Christian was a very good student and was a joy to have in the classroom.

The book on Christian, from reading Tsai's blog, is that Christian's career at UH was marred with injuries.

I do wish Christian well in his future.
