Ma'afala offered...

Post by Makai TailG8TAZ »

I'm guessing he attended the Big Mans Camp and the coaches like what they saw. This is what Scout.com is advertising anyway. If not, sorry for jumping the snap.

Ben Ma'afala used to lay da wood on the Dline in the Tomey Days.

He was one BAD Ma'afala!

That's what I recall. Benson was a QB in HS and a punter in college.

In think at McKinley Benson played QB, P, K, KR, PR, and maybe even defense.
If I remember, Benson was an '83 grad

FYI for those interested. I found an old article on the Ma`afala family listing all the family members.

Benson came to UH as a junior or senior and was a punter and reserve quarterback. Nick was the the physical specimen but started an early family so he had to work during summers and took a break for a year or so and came back. He was not the same but still got a tryout for a team. I remember him out of mckinley at 240 and 6'2" and running a 4.7 forty and benching over 400 lbs.

I know how you feel.

Good for him though. I hope he gets lots of offers...but of course I hope he accepts UH's offer.

The nickname "one bad ma'afala" was given to Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala...
I think it was Ron McBride who first said it when Chris played for Utah.
Later Chris Berman started saying it on SportsCenter when Chris played for the Steelers
